I believe there was a bug introduced in latest patch that when you 1-hit kill a monster, bleed + Vampiric Mag will not work. It seems bleed is not applied, and counted for purposes of Vampiric mag, when you 1-hit kill monster. I tried this some time ago and I had no ammo returned 100% of time when I was 1-hit killing small Perforo monsters in CT12 expedition.

Has always been like that. One hitting trashmob will NOT apply bleed onto them.

I did not try this method myself before the last patch but there were people who reported this issue right after the patch landed. It was mentioned that this was not the case before.

Anyway, this problem is reality now and it impacts any mods depending on effect being applied, ie. Toxic, Burn or Bleed. I do not think this is a problem for automatic weapons in CT15 but high-damage guns such as snipers or shotguns might run into issues.

One good thing to have is weapon mod Bone Scrapnel and it AoE bleeds onto enemies next to main target that dies so it's a nice way to put bleed on a lot of things for ammo kill shots. It's what I've been using and it works often enough where I am not running out of bullets unless I'm 1v1 a big boss
yeah i was using bone sharpnel too
