Can't remember a game with such 'cringe' writing?

It's kind of like Duke nukem without the comedy. Duke nukem was laughing at itself.

Ok in all seriousness, I feel the writing is bad, it's just angst and anger... everyone is a bad ass. Yes the world would make people hard, but right from the start the way the story progressed, it was bad.

Before people call me a troll, I do like the game, just the writing is one of it's weak points .

I think judging a book by it's first chapter or its cover is pointless. We can't possibly see any character growth or depth from this. Hence it would be absurd to compare.

Honestly the writing seems fine and more or less believable to me, people tend to have personalities at least. The Protagonist is enjoyable for me, snarky but gruff.

I haven't played the game but was watching it being streamed for 3 hours last night and I did think the writing was very average, even for a game. The worst part was the use of the eff word.

I have nowt against swearing in games, but they somehow managed to really overdo that one word and it just sounded like they were really trying too hard.

you don't find it kind of jarring that the character reaches that point after only a few hours? "i saw you take that picture only a few hours ago". the character progressed from mild mannered nobody, to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their pants, to billy badass in the span of a few hours. the writing is awful and there is no getting around it, and considering the space the game is trying to fill as a looter shooter rpg it's kind of important that people are aware of it. it's got a very cheesy 90's style action movie full of one liner's kind of dialogue, idk it got old pretty fast

If the first chapter of a book doesn't manage to catch the readers' attention, a lot of them won't bother to read any forther. We didn't just see the cover of this book, we took a look into several chapters already.

Then their children and should stick to teen novels.

Good thing it's a game, not a book. And you didn't "look into several chapters", you played the prologue, it's literally in the description.

Outriders have bad writing and it's a pity since the story seems interesting otherwise.
Well to be honest, I don't play that sort of game for the story anyway so not a great loss.

Borderlands is set up to not be taken serious, this game is set up to be taken serious.

You 100% can judge a book based on the first chapter. What kind of fool would go "this first chapter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks, hope it gets better by chapter 50!"? Like, literally no one with even half a brain would do that.
