Its faster paced, from my experience, as well.
The anomaly builds are pretty cool too.
Remnant is a bit more difficult and the boss fights are a bit more mechanic heavy. The gunplay is excellent and building your character up feels great, as well the environments are much better.
Both are solid games though.
Twisty sums up Remnant pretty well, and you also get dozens of abilities to mix and match. Like a bubble that stops projectiles, turret summons, angry dog mummy summons, and more, all on top of your weapon's abilities.
The worlds are also randomly generated, and the story can change slightly between each playthrough.
I'm a mostly solo player but I do like in destiny it has the option to be social EG. If I'm playing the story I can get people in my game to help out/have a chat.
Does either game rely on playing multiplayer or are both solid single player with a bit of multiplayer?
As for solo, they both offer great experiences, id say Outriders are more of a rush thru to endgame type though, which is a lot easier solo. Whereas Remnant I felt like I wanted to take my time and figure some of the hidden stuff out and explore.
Obviously any game is better with friends though!
Also for remnant there are a bunch of hidden, some convoluted, quests that can change the way you take on each playthru
Outriders is a more fast-paced, arcade-ish, visceral game with good difficulty scaling options but overall starts off very easy to slip into. As a looter shooter it'll feel familiar since you've played stuff like D2 and Borderlands.
Remnant is a slow-paced, tense game that's pretty difficult and punishing off the bat if you're not used to stuff like that. It's not a looter-shooter and doesn't really have loot drops, more you have to explore to find new gear in the environment or craft it from bosses.
I'd personally say Remnant is the better put-together game of the two, but Outriders does have the benefit of a free demo that carries your progress over.
This game is cool when it works, which for me was 3 or more patches ago.. The campaign is still fun if you have patience for reloading checkpoints often due to Disconnects and cheap deaths. Wouldn't recommend multiplayer because that has even worse connectivity.
I'd say Remnants was 1000% easier than outriders. I could clear the whole game on hardmode with zero deaths. I can't even reliably clear one mission on this game, mostly due to enemy damage spiking through the roof and mods/skills not working.
So my vote is easily Remnants.
Outriders, you may enjoy it, but don't expect a live service game; you'll play it, you'll do some expeditions, and maybe also play with additional characters, but there'll come a point where you'll feel you've done everything - this is something that I didn't feel in Remnants, to be honest.
I'd say grab both, but neither has the potential to become a long-term investment in my opinion.
Also, they forgot to mention that Remnant was FREE on Epic a while back. It might be again some time. They do that sometimes, but you really can't count on it.
They DID point out, though, that you can try the demo for Outriders for FREE and if you like it, then your progress carries over to the full game if you purchase it. That right there should be enough for you to try this one and see if you like it before committing to either.
As for the time investment and "completing everything", I had 100% achievements in Remnant in probably longer time spent than 100% Steam achievements here. Mostly because I sucked at the survival mode stuff and it took me a while of getting better and better to get 15 in a row the first time I did that for that Steam achievement. By that time, though, I also had 1,000 trait points (the max) and almost all weapons/armor/items "saved" and was more or less done with EVERYTHING I could possibly do (with a few minor exceptions, because I also lost a ton of save files when I had to reformat a year or so ago and the new collection of saves is the second time collecting them). But for Outriders, sure I got 100% Steam achievements in less time, but doing "everything" in the game? Yeah, that'll take a LOT of time. I'm over 200 hours /played now and I'm not even done with my first character and honestly with the RNG and how they deal with legendaries, filling in my collection for all the item collection accolades will be a while JUST for this character. I still shudder at how I'm going to do it 3 more times to "get everything".
The replayability (sp?) for Remnant is a lot higher (on the surface, anyway) because it's random what you'll face on each play through. So going through the MSQ multiple times will mean multiple areas that weren't there the first time and areas that were there the first time that aren't the next. Outriders has a finite set of same areas that are all the same and there are only 14 expeditions (13 that people farm, though, since the last one is a PITA and the cost to enter compared to rewards is silly) and that's it.
It's really apples and oranges. Remnant has a MUCH higher power curve to get past when you play, because, well, it IS tagged as a Souls game. But once you get to a good level of power there, getting to max becomes quite a bit easier. In Outriders, if you want to just faceroll content and not break a sweat, you can do most content at the lowest difficulty setting and just "see the story". I rather enjoyed both stories.
As for solo play? I did almost everything in both games solo. I had a little help here and there, though. The communities, though, are a bit different. Remnant's Discord community is toxic af and makes me not want to help strangers ever again in any game. People here can be toxic, but the ratio of good people to toxic people is much more skewed toward the good people here and the toxic people there. But (again) if you play mostly solo, then the community doesn't matter.
Final thought, though, that if you can make time for both? They are both very rewarding and fun IMO.
