I mean, if you had paid any attention to anything they have done in the last few years you would not require further proof.
The studio hasn't apparently received royalties on the game, nor apparently turned a profit.
They're working on 6 other projects at this time, and the game hasn't had an update in about 2 years. At this point they're more focused on other things that turns up more money for them.
The last store news update was back in Dec. 2022 (outside of "announcing" the "complete" edition).
just forget this mess and move on.
so i keep hearing that Square screwed PCF on the contract for Outriders and that they didn't make any real money from the deal, which is why it was so abandoned/treated this way all these years
Does anyone have any evidence of this i could go read up on?
Also, it wouldn't change the fact that PCF's name is all over this, so the hatred naturally goes to the developer of the game, not the publisher attached to it
Which means all the negativity at being mis-treated this badly after paying so much for the game is being directed at PCF
They really made a series of wrong decisions if their aim was to get back at Square by tanking the game that players paid full price for with their name on it
Yup that's as SqEnix as it gets.
" "Furthermore, in accordance with the development and publishing agreement signed on February 16th 2016 between the parent and Square Enix Limited to develop Outriders, since the game was completed and released on April 1st 2021 the Group is entitled to receive consideration in the form of royalties. Their amount is directly linked to and represents a percentage of the profit earned on the sale of the game.
"The Group received no royalties from the publisher for the period to March 31st 2023, which means that as at the reporting date net proceeds from the sale of Outriders were insufficient to recover the costs and expenses incurred by the publisher to develop, distribute and promote the title.""

PCF got burnt hard by Square Enix making up advertising costs as it saw fit to deny paying them any royalties forever huh?
No wonder why we got a torched abandoned game, they gave up on it before release because they never believed they were going to get a dollar more from Square by working on it
edit: turns out Square Enix put the game on Gamepass and PCF got 0% of the gamepass day 1 deal money, and also since it was on Gamepass, all the players playing it there didn't count towards 'sales' for the contract they had
Square royally screwed them over, and PCF just gave up on the game for it
Players got robbed twice
