Windows 10 Compatability Mode Settings - ACTUAL
No need to start renaming files or messing with config files.

1. Right-click on the game in your Steam library to open the settings and view game files.
2. Right-click on Comandos application (.exe) and select properties.
3. Select compatability tab.
4. Run compatability for Windows 95.
5. Select reduced color mode for 16-bit.
6. Apply.

You can now run the game directly from your Steam library. It will be a tiny window, but once it starts-up, adjust the video settings to the max (1024 x 768). The historical cut scenes will still be small, but the game will play at 1024 x 768.

No more Dx 5 error, and no more .exe missing error.
Best of all, no more super-speed glitch from Windows XP and 7!

Enjoy.

It works for me. Unfortunally it just run on a window 800x600, not in full screen.

In-game settings should get you at least to 1024x768, but no - it won't fill a full screen.
marcelo.rib.fer Aug 27, 2015 @ 1:40pm
I see. But it goes only on 800x600. When i put 1024x768 it stay at same size of 800x600.
Anyway, thanks for the tip.
I have created a new comandos.exe file that runs the game on windows 10, no compatibility or reduced colours required and it is running smooth and no issues. Here is how I did it:

Step 1: Rename your original Comandos application to Commandos

You can do this by right-clicking on the game in your Steam library, selecting properties, then local files and left-clicking browse local files. Right-click on the Comandos application, select rename and make the ammendment to Commandos.

(As some people have already posted, the spelling correction allows the game to run but not through steam)

Step 2: Create a new Comandos application for Steam to run the game.

Open a notepad and enter the following text on the first line (please note to adjust this for your filepath to the games installation folder):

start "E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Commandos Behind Enemy Lines" commandos.exe

Save this notepad as Comandos.bat

(double-clicking this .BAT file will run the game, but Steam still cannot as it will not find the executable)

Finally, you need to convert the .BAT file into a .exe file for Steam to see. The easiest way to do this is by using a website like http://www.f2ko.de/en/ob2e.php where you can upload your .Bat file and select 32bit Architecture

Please note no password is required and it is best to keep the output file visible.

Click Convert and in a few moments you will be able to download the new Comandos.exe which you need to place in your game installation folder.

Now steam will run the game from the library with no compatibility mode or reduced colour mode required

I hope this helps :)

So you're saying that that's SO MUCH easier than just changing two pulldown options in the .exe properties? Make your own thread if you want to poast stupid $hit like this.
Wow, hostile response..

Sorry if i stepped on your toes there but it is easy to do and is a better quality and complete solution which runs full screen game/videos and no compatibility needed, no reduced colours..and it runs through steam..

So in response, it is easy to do and does not reduce the quality of the game being played

You already had feedback on your solution from another user showing the required full screen mode and full resolution.

I hope this helps marcelo.rib.fer and you can also enjoy the game in full quality now too.

You're welcome :)

No toes stepped upon, but make a new thread instead of complicating things for people who don't look for the hardest way to do things. Stop being so hyper sensitive. If you thought that was hostile, then you have serious emotional issues.

JP - you clearly are the one with the "issues" here, why open a discussion thread and then get all "Make your own thread" and then to try with person attacks like "you have serious emotional issues". < that is hostility and unnecessary conduct on these forums.

All I did was post the correct solution to the problem and other users want to know that you can have full screen and run the game through steam without loss of quality as demonstrated above in an earlier comment.

It seems you are unhappy that someone else may have a different approach to the problem; more so that it works better than yours (and to be fair alot of people have posted the same method of yours, it just doesn't work full screen or as well - why settle for less).

I appreciate that you may find my solution more complex and hard, others may find it less so and the reward is a fully working game with no reduced quality.

At the end of the day you can stick to your little window, its personal preference really.

It seems you are the one with emotional issues.

DO NOT USE THIS "http://www.f2ko.de/en/ob2e.php" SITE as suggested by valdimar_scriptus! If Virus Total has this many hits on it, it isn't worth the risk:

Thank you @JP, your procedure works! Just a note for others, you can change your resolution later in the game ;]
