Windows 7 x64 "DirectX 5" error

For some reason my Commandos games stopped working, perhaps after Steam released fixes for them Windows 10, all four games give the same DirectX 5 Not Found error. I came across a YouTube video with a "fixed" Comandos.exe file download but this did not cure the problem either.

My OS has not changed so it must be Steam that has broken the games on Windows 7 x64, please undo whatever you did and give me back the working versions please, or fix the fix.

Hopefully after all this time you have discovered the patch.bat file that you need to run to eliminate the dx5 error.

I have the same problem. But running the patch.bat file doesn't help :/ The Legacy Version is running but not the normal. But what's the difference?
