FighterZ Edition vs Ultimate Edition
With another -85% sale happening, newcomers like me are probably confused about what edition to buy. There's no description on the page explaining the difference so I had to google the phrases to find on other websites what they entail...

https://www.xbox.com/en-ca/games/store/dragon-ball-fighterz-fighterz-edition/c1lt7s106kzh/0001 "includes the game along with the FighterZ Pass, which adds 8 new mighty characters"

https://www.xbox.com/en-ca/games/store/dragon-ball-fighterz-ultimate-edition/bpbzvtwfws8f/0001 "The Ultimate Edition includes: The game • FighterZ Pass (8 new characters) • Anime Music Pack (available by March 1st 2018) Commentator Voice Pack (available by April 15th 2018)

So basically if we're fine without commentary/music we don't need the Ultimate Edition, and the FighterZ edition seems to be getting this add-on https://store.steampowered.com/app/729450/DRAGON_BALL_FighterZ__FighterZ_Pass/

The add-on is normally 45 (down to 13.50 in this sale) so combined with the base game (normally 80, on sale for 12) would normally be 125 dollars, current combined sale price of 25.50. This means paying 18.74 for the FighterZ edition saves you a little over 6 dollars.

There are 2 other passes to unlock other characters but you could probably wait until later to order those separately since these -85% sales seem to happen pretty often.

Looks like pass components (characters) can be bought standalone. The steam description of passes doesn't mention who's in them so we'll have to look offsite for that data too I guess...

https://www.xbox.com/en-CA/games/store/dragon-ball-fighterz-fighterz-pass/BTQ2HPPX86B7/0001 says the first one has Bardock+Goku+Vegeta+Vegito and Android17+Android21+Broly+Cooler

I'm getting conflicting reports from the reviews on Steam though, like https://steamcommunity.com/id/kira6667/recommended/729450/ lists "Fused Zamasu" in place of Android 21, so possibly the FighterZ pass on Xbox and Steam have this one slight difference?

Does anyone know if buying these passes is necessary to unlock the chars or if they might be unlocked free in-game somehow by grinding?

I guess one thing I'm wondering as a PC gamer - can I play online against any of you Steambros or am I just limited to single-player campaign mode because nobody ever visits me?

Xbox appears to have the FighterZ edition on sale for the same price that Steam does, if anyone's curious. I've been blowing a lot on games lately so I don't know how good an investment this is if I don't have anyone IRL to PVP with (do you guys tend to hook up USB controllers to your console?) unless it does let us play online against each other.

Would love if someone could tell me

You can check the roster regarding fighterZ passes here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Ball_FighterZ it only takes googling "dbfz roster" or "dbfz" for me.

Base game is THE game. There are a few characters to unlock (majin 21, Blue Goku and Vegeta), but the ones that you buy in the passes are not unlockable characters. They are solely DLC.

If you're only interested in the full roster, cheapest best way is to get
1. FighterZ edition (which will get you base game + season 1);
2. pass 2;
3. pass 3;
4. and labcoat 21.

If you really want someone in particular and don't care about most characters, I'd buy fighterz edition and that character or pass he's in.

If you have a decent PC that meets minimal requirements, I'd buy it on PC because it has less minimum latency and more people are more likely to be playing there, but you can totally go for other platforms. Online is good and well if you don't play with people on the other side of the world.

You can totally hook up via steam forums with some noobs but on PC there's no way to communicate with people you meet in-game other than just stamps with game premade text if you meet them in a lobby. Lobbies are public and only way to play the game. If someone's online, you can meet him in the lobby if he's not playing someone.

Is communication any better on other platforms?

tbh it just seems cheaper to buy storage space for a PC than cards to insert on a switch, haven't gone for an Xbox or PlayStation series yet...

eh why not, Ithink the base roster will be interesting enough

I don't play anything other than PC, so I don't know for sure, but I heard that you can directly chat when playing on one of the other platforms? Playing PC you only have whatever is available in the game. In-game itself there's no chatbox or global chat. only thing you can type in - is your name or nick. You only have stamps with quotes and message templates like "hi" "would you like to play with me" "add me to your friend list" etc which the most latter btw can be used while your in-game name is your discord or steam name/id, so they can add you by manually searching for you.

Same data can be found on steam storage page...
Even if Youd started this topic for others to see... its futile, because topics like this come around every month.
