It's actually a smart decision, giving Goku a childish voice, which manages to sound serious when fighting, fitting his behavior. When you watch is japanese the enlish sounds so off. It removes a whole part of the character. Also every character in english sounds like they have lung cancer or smoke too much, their voices are all grave, forced.
Now you guys go all check canadian dubs on youtube. It's a masterpiece trust me.
Most people are not only able to read subtitles, crazy stuff I know, but are able to discern emotion from tone/inflection.
in the case of Dragon Ball, the original dubs of DB and DBZ 'americanized' and dulled the show, DBZ especially, by changing a lot of things.
Personally, I find the japanese voices fit a lot of the characters better too.
Both.
"Cited" XD
It's "quoted"
From another french studying english
But you summed up the situation pretty well, it's weird that french all prefer the japanese voices (at least I don't think I ever heard someone say "french dub is better"), while english natives really stick to the dub in their native language. And it's not like the english version is better than the french. Most of them do so prabably to "shine in society" by not appearing as a weaboo while they don't even know what a weaboo is. And heck what if people are weaboo? What will it change?
