Now some of you were probably scratching your head first and wonder "Why in the hell is another DBZ game being made?" But I bet that question immediately changed once DBFZ was being made by Arc System Works! I am not gonna lie, I was not excited for this game at all. The gameplay was impressive but, something about this game and its beautiful graphics at first just seemed off. When I finally got to try the first closed beta of the game, (after 50+ error screens later) I was able to experience some fun and overtop gameplay mechanics with the randomized offline battles and have a glimpse of what the online was all about. However, the online portion of that beta was beyond disappointing. First off, when I think of online mode, I expect to be able to communicate with players and to have a spectator mode. What I don't care about is all of these POINTLESS and USLESS lobby avatar items, quotes and etc. I mean in all honesty, who is gonna want some of this stuff or let alone, pay for any of it? I appreciate the innovation but, this is just silly and not needed at all. I couldn't even get into a match for over 2-3 hours. So in closing to this section of the review, the closed beta, did not make me want to purchase this game at all.

Several months later, my disappointment has grown to an immense size. Generic and run of the mill game modes for fighting games, are in this game. The only difference is that it has a story mode and 3v3 mode. Where are the party game modes? Alternative paths to the story? 4v4 mode? Hell, a short action and adventure beat em up mode like in Tekken 5 and Tekken 6? I mean something, anything innovative and different. I am so bored with just the same old excuses from fighting game fanboys/fans, on as to why these modes are ok and nothing else. I am paying $60 for a game, that honestly feels like a $40 experience in my opinion. Excuse me for playing some fighting games from back in the day, that offered just a little bit more. For an Arc System works game, this is bare bones and just feels half♥♥♥♥♥♥♥in some elements. What is even more insulting is how there are only 8 DLC characters and only 3 of which are new and 5 are old characters that we played before in other Dragon ball games for free or by unlocking them (yes I know that these characters are being made under a new game engine, have a new moveset, blah blah blah. I get it esports and fighting game fans). The gameplay trailers are good enough but not enough to make me super hyped for this game. Hit? Beerus? Black Goku? Super Sayian God Goku and Vegeta? Correct me if I am wrong but, aren't there more DBS villains in this game? Doesn't this roster of 21 characters, feel a little off or run of the mill for a typical AAA fighting game? I don't know. Overall, here are my pros and cons for this game:

Pros:
-Fighting is fantastic and the HD graphics are spectacular
-Voice acting is superb
-Android 21
-Supporting fan base

Cons:
-Predictable Story
-Not enough Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Super Characters
-BS DLC + Character pass
-Multiple editions that barely offer anything
-DRM for the PC port
-With so many Dragonball games out there, how is this one any better than the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi games?
-Not enough stage interactions
-Typical bugs/glitches (Will be fixed via patching)
- Not enough game modes
-Online servers need some patching
- Too many base clones (with altered movesets) of Goku and Vegeta? (Why are there two versions of Gohan? Can't they both just be one slot?)
-Ho-hum advertisement for this game
-Music is not all that memorable in this game (But it is awesome to listen to).
-It may be better than Capcom's recent fighting games, but that is not really saying a lot now is it?
-Esports pandering....just ew!

Final verdict: 6/10

Conclusion: This game is a fun/beautiful disappointment. Compared to other Dragonball games, this one is just here to appease the esports crowd and nobody else. While it may have a meh story and the fighting/graphics are amazing, this game just feels unfinished to me. I don't know why, but this game just makes me want an HD port of Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Budokai 3 for Steam with new modes, online and new characters from Dragon ball Super. Sorry DBZ fans. I expected just a little bit more from this one. Especially since this one is made from one of my favorite game companies. Welp. Time to wait for Blazblue CrossTag Battle. Rent it first and definitely buy it once it is on sale. On second thought, I am just gonna NOT buy fighitng games for awhile if microtransactions and DLC/unbalanced gameplay, is now how fighting games are going to be made and accepted.

That is exactly it. This game is meant to be competitive. This is not meant to be the next Budokai Tenkaichi or Xenoverse. This is a 2D Fighting game first, a Dragon Ball game second. If you don't like that then that's fine, just say that you prefer games like that in the review. Dissing the game when you don't like the genre really isn't fair to the game

Give me a break. Now a days, you don't even have to play some of these games to review them anymore. If you played an Arc System Works fighting game, you pretty much know what you are already getting. And yes, I pre-purchased the game. Just waiting to pre-install the game and play it. You feel bad that they turned your typical family DBZ game (with a huge roaster, cinematic combos,etc..) into a competitive game and that's your right. I mean nobody should be mocking you for having this opinion. Now 2 things:

1:) They already have a product for you named Xenoverse and maybe you should keep yourself paged about Xenoverse 3.

2:) When you voice your opinion in a way that's part of a review: People would go at you in a mean way. A review is based on fact and how you put them in context (pricing, content, quality, etc) not on feelings. I'm sorry.

But i hear you clear and i'm sure some people feel the same. I do believe it's great for the DBZ brand overall to have an Evo showcase and all.

Well considering this game was made 1st and foremost for the competitive fighting game market i'd say the game is doing its job pretty damn well. Like others have said if you want a mostly single player experience pick up Xenoverse. I'll agree with you on the drm though, putting that ♥♥♥♥ in the EULA only is some dodgy ♥♥♥♥.

Seems like an odd point to have as a negative.
This is a good fighting game, whereas the other DBZ games wouldn't really hold up if you removed the license.

I don't think you get how reviews work. Hell even people who put out Preview reviews on what they have played only talk about what they have played. Yet in your review you talk about Story content,Bugs, Online Play,Clone fighters,and ect. You're "review sounds more like an opinion piece then a review of any kind. Before the backlash of quote unquote defending a game that someone does or does not like what its doing. I have no stake in this I am not someone who worked on this game,I am not somone who works for Bandai or there affiliates. To be simple I do not care but what I do care about is this trash if you want to make a review fine it could be the worst written thing I've ever read.
