I don't have problems with the dpad, maybe you need to expend a little time in practice mode in order to get used. I had problems from play with xbox one gamepad (honestly i still have problems SOMETIMES) but thanks to training mode i'm used. My main controller is a PS4 and my old controller was a ps classic controller, sometimes I play ok nintendo switch and even if the dpad is kinda little, feel comfortable (more than any analog stick).
Sometimes in my worst days I have problems for block or miss a single kamehameha (236S).
Anyway, if you are using analog stick and works for you, keep using analogs, get used playing training mode.
dpad for specials and supers
I find that Xbox controllers with the disk/shield style dpad are awful for fighting games.
But Playstation controllers, where each direction is its own button feel much better.
At least thats my opinion.
