How much is your experience with fighting games? Maybe you need a little bit more training.
Playing on arcade stick is not mandatory at all with fighting games, what is the most important is the quality of your controller, being a gamepad or an arcade stick. For gamepads ps4 is your best base option, I can give you better options depending on your budget. For arcade sticks there are many, but you'll have to pay at least 100$ for a basic one and you might have to change some parts to make it decent. Personnally it's been 18years that I use arcade sticks, got around 15 sticks in my garage and many replacement parts.
Breaking news: it didn't. Had to swtich back to my keyboard, and now the fightstick serves as an decoration for my bedroom.
Play on whatever you feel more comfy. Don't switch controllers unless the one you're using right now is broken.
This guy here could make a fantastic Starcraft player someday lmao.
people use fightsticks in FGs for the same reason ppl still use Gamecube controllers in Smash Bros, its just what they grew up with
i use a fightpad, a controller specificly for FGs (razer raion) and yes, it does certain inputs easier, especially due to its unique d-pad. For instance, instead air dashing is mad easy on this thing, but i had troubles doing it on PS4 controllers
if you grew up playing in arcades, you can try a fightstick, but i doubt you did, so just go with a PS4 controller or a fightpad
note: a good controller doesnt do ♥♥♥♥ if you arent actually good at inputing, it helps only so much
It has been proven anyway no matter if you play on gamepad or arcade stick (but please not keyboard) you can be the best on earth at DBFZ.
From my own experience, about switching from gamepads to arcade sticks. It was in 2002 when I was doing a lot of fighting games competitions on CVS2, SFIII:3.3 and Guilty Gear X. During a competition one day I had literrally my left nail suffering from d-pad on GGX requiring a lot of inputs. That's when I decided to switch to arcade stick and put some efforts into that. Transition was not so hard and my arcade stick didn't go into some decoration for my bedroom. I can still play on gamepad, but I don't really enjoy the feeling.
