You get 50K per arc for the first two arcs. Hard mode is also a very good zeni farm if you can be bothered to play it.

Oh, that's right. I thought there was a reward for the first two. I just couldn't remember what it was.

If you are willing to beat all 3 arcs (not on hard mode, just the single play through) and go through the tutorial stuff in the practice section, you should have all the money you need to unlock all the characters.

if u want zeny do all the combo trials its 5000 each, story doesn't give you much zeny till you get to the 3rd part or hard difficulty and it takes... forever. I just pretended story was training mode and practiced my combos on the clones because it was really boring otherwise.

Imo that's the best way to go about the story. Use it as training mode.
