Disadvantaged using a keyboard?
Hey, so just about to buy this, and wanted to know before I do if there's any major disadvantage to using a keyboard over say a controller or joystick?

Haven't played a DBZ game since Budokai 3 on PS2 lol, and haven't played a fighter since Street Fighter IV on Steam (used a keyboard for that, not joystick)

Thanks!

I don't think so, It's a question about habit.

If you play fps that different, but no precision required, only fast combo

There are no advantages just preferences

i honestly hate that i dont have a game pad, but i cant say its any harder using keyboard. you can adjust controls to fit your playstyle on a keyboard no problem. i myself cant play without a mouse in my hand lol so i made keybindings on my razer naga so i dont have to have my hand on KB. so now my right thumb controls half of whats needed. of course to do this i needed to bind the keys through mouse software. sometimes i change over however to the KB and its an easy adjustment. just know there is a massive skill curve in this game. hasnt changed the fact that its as addicting as crack xD i highly recommend. put a timer on your phone for 50 minutes. buy the game, play till timer rings...if you dont like it youre within your one hour refund. hope this helps!!!

It depends on your keyboard. I started playing fighting games on my keyboard, but I soon started to notice that inputs were dropping if things went too fast. Turns out the wiring in my keyboard doesn't allow for a lot of buttons to be pressed at the same time or in quick succession.

I've since moved on to arcade stick. Anyway, no, you should be fine using a keyboard, depending on the type. As mentioned above, it's mostly a matter of preference.
keyboard can be very viable and extremely optimal for fighitng games so long as you don't have any ghosting issuew with your keyboard.

there's a nice embedded applet at the top of this page that'll help you figure that out:

I don't think it's an issue for most keyboards these days but it's worth testing if you aren't sure.

fighting games take time no matter what though, so be prepared to lose and learn a lot if you want to get better and progress. they're very rewarding though as well.

No you just need a keyboard that dont have ghosting or that your layout dont activate it.

Sometimes keyboard is easier for some inputs like charge but DBFZ has very simple inputs so play with something that you are comfortable.

I'm using keyboard and I'm red rank super saiyan, been winning most of my fights online. As others said, just make sure it doesn't have any ghosting issues. The best input device is the one you feel the most comfortable with.

It is more about habit. I feel more comfortable on keyboard than gamepad even in Guilty Gear. This game less input heavy and feels completely OK on keyboard, anyway.
Hell no. Think I'm almost obliged to post this on every board for every fighting game I own whenever it's asked but as long as you have a solid keyboard it's as good as a stick or hitbox once you've practiced.

What I'd recommend (and what I've done for arc's previous games) is WASD for movement, and 7, 8 and 9 on the numpad for L, M and H. From there maybe use + for special, and set your assists and macros as you please.

The game consists entirely of quarter circle motions as well, and I'd argue it's much easier to achieve on a keyboard than on a gamepad, especially an analogue stick.

I am using keyboard but i am the oposite. I use the arrow keys and wasd and the keys around them. I just started ranked and i am with 62% winrate. So far.

If saying play SF, I'd use IJKL as movement, QWE as the 3 punches, ASD as the 3 kicks, then R and F as the "specials" or whatever you'd call them.

Is there any specific way you'd map certain keys in this game so certain things aren't awkward, like do you have to constantly press 2 specific buttons so you want them mapped in a certain way, or is it really straight forward and just preference?
