I feel comfortable with it.
My tips to get the quarter circle down:
1) Use the d-pad, not the analog stick on your controller
2) begin SLOW. Perform the motion slowly in training mode. Make sure your input display is on so you can see where you do mistakes. Once you are able to do it slowly and consistently, speed up a bit. Keep doing this until the move comes out. Repetition is key to mastering execution.
Go into practice and try to do these quarter circle motions again and again and you'll get there eventually. iirc it took me about an hour of practice till I was able to do them semi-consistently, so don't give up.
Btw, I don't know if you're doing it right. Are you doing down and end on down-right? Because it should go down --> down-right --> right
Also, the input for the move ( for example your A press ) should happen at the exact moment that you finish the motion so it would be something like down --> down-right --> right + A
Hope this helped!
(D-Pad is easier for these moves. I prefer using the analog stick since it feels more natural to me and I'm not able to jump cancel as consistently if I use the D-Pad)
Yeah, i've been using the arrows sticks, but doing the quarter circle motion is near impossible for me.I manage to pulll it off 25% of the time.
The PS4 dpad is also superior, ergonomically speaking. Alternatives to the PS4 controller would be the Logitech F310/F510 series, which I used to use before switching to the DS4. However, if you have the money I wouldn't recommend the Logitech stuff because while the dpad is more comfortable, it's also rather flimsy & much less accurate. And, idk if it's a thing, but I find the Logitech controllers have kinda 1-2 frames of native input delay as opposed to the DS4 with Guilty Gear (came to this conclusion because I have to slow down my inputs w/ the DS4, and input timing was not really consistent w/ the Logitech controller). Haven't tested it w/ this game tho since I just stick with the DS4 since I got it.
btw, if you're getting a DS4 down the line, think it's better to get the 2nd version where the light bar are both on top & the front of the controller. Heard you can get input delay reduction when using it wired to the PC/console.
As for the 236/214 (or quarter circle) inputs, the correct way to do it would be to press 2 (down) and slide your thumb to 4 or 6 (left/right) by riding the quarter circle curve/arc, or as some say, riding the gate. The thumb motion is just the same when it on dpads.
Just remember, the special moves won't come out if you're inputting things in the wrong order. So as others have said here, try to get the 2-3-6-button press done in correct order slowly, before you increase the speed of your inputs.
When playing on pads, people just prefer using the dpad in general compared to the analog stick because it's both easier & faster to do it on the dpad.
No matter how long i attempt to practice i can't pull it off.
It works just fine when i do a quarter circle on it's own, but the moment i need to do it after a different abillty it just doesn't work.
Be more specific. So you're trying to cancel a move into quarter circle now? What exactly are you trying to do?
Not cancel a move, do abillties that require quarter circle, after a specific combo.
When i do quarter circle on it's own, as a first abillty it usually works, but when i have to do it after a previous attack it doesn't seem to register.
In that case you are not doing it fast enough. Start doing quarter circle as soon as you press the previous input, this way your character will still be in the middle of executing the last attacking and you'll already be buffering quarter circle input.
There is a bit of an improvement, but it's still really iffy.
