DRAGON BALL FighterZ

I Know Nothing About Numeral Notation
I wanna get good at this game, but to get good, I have to learn a new fighting game term altogether. And I wanna know how long this will take because I hate reading. I only played Netherrealm Games such as Mortal Kombat and Injustice and I never heard about this being yelled out at the tournaments. All you would hear is Down, 1. Forward 3. Basically, Light, Medium, Heavy = 1, 2, and 3. A simple way of learning. But this on the other hand is just downright confusing. And someone said this only applies to anime fighting games, FighterZ being my only anime fighting game. So I'd like for y'all to explain it to me, I respond to each one, because for some stupid reason, reading something to learn off of doesn't work with me, but asking questions and hopes to get an answer for something does.

What's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9? There's only 4 buttons to press on a controller, not 12.
Diagonal and neutral. 7 being backwards and up. So a clasical input of a hadoken (down, down+forward, forward, Punch) would be 236 and whatever punch is in each case.

5 being not touching anything, useful in Tekken and the sorts where some movements requires a pause in the flow of inputs. I don't think it is useful in DBFZ thou.
Just think about the numpad in your keyboard

Doesn't Tekken play like Soul Calibur? When they move around, so does the camera, similar to Soul. And I only played Soul Calibur for Darth Vader and Ezio Auditore da Firenze.
Look at your numpad, they are directions.
I like how no one actually said what it means yet.
The numbers equate to directions.
1 is down+left, 2 is down, 3 is down+right, 4 is left, 5 is standing still, and so on.
Quarter circle forward would be expressed as 2,3,6, because it is assumed you're standing on the left of your opponent.
It's super simple and obvious if you just think about it for a second.

So Quarter Circle is basically the opposite.

7 up back
8 up
9 up forward
4 back
5 neutral
6 forward
1 down back
2 down
3 down forward
j jump

If you just look at the numpad and imagine that they are directions, it's not that hard.

Alright, change back into left and right because that's confusing.

That's fair. Left and right. Do that if you'd like and it's really simple

Mainly airdashers use numpad notation. 3D games don't.

But it's not "left and right", it's "back and forward". Any instruction that ever tells you what to do will handle it like that. If you see a combo listed as 2M>5M>6H>236S, that's not suddenly going to be listed as 2M>5M>4M>214S just because you're on the right side.

i.e. take any inputs you see as if you are on the left side because that's always been player one.
people have explained this to you a lot, i think

the numbers indicate a direction. to know what they mean, look at the numpad on a keyboard and imagine its a joystick. 5 is neutral, 6 is forward, 4 is back, 2 is down, 3 is forward+down, etc. it assumes your character is facing right

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DSPIPG3X4AAibPX.jpg

the letters are the buttons. this game labels its buttons as L, M, H, and S, which is light, medium, heavy, and special respectively.when you see someone say something like 2M, they mean down+medium, 5H means neutral (no direction) heavy, 236L meand quarter circle forward (down > down+forward > forward) and light, etc. in the context of air moves, people dont usually type out the 5 because very few air normals have a directional inut (for example, j.H instead of j.5H, but you would still say j.2H for the midair down+heavy)

when you see "j." or "dj.", thats indicating that the following moves are done in the air or after a doublejump. j.2H would be down+heavy preformed in the air. dj.2H would be down+heavy preformed after a doublejump. in a combo, some people use "jc" before a series of "j." inputs, jc meaning jump cancel (for example, 2M 5M jc j.LLL), but when this is in the context of a combo, you can safetly assume that youre going to jump cancel 5M to follow up with j.5LLL (2M 5M j.LLL). same deal with doublejump

SD means superdash, DR means dragon rush, L1 and L3 mean level 1 and level 3 super, all that ♥♥♥♥ (some people represent this stuff differently, but its obvious enough what they mean).

as an example:

2M 5M j.LM2H SD j.LM dj.LLL

down+medium (2M) > neutral medium (5M) > jump cancel > jumping light (j.L) > jumping medium (j.M) > jumping down+heavy (j.2H) > superdash (SD) > jumping light (j.L) > jumping medium (j.M) > jump cancel (doublejump) > jumping autocombo (dj.LLL)

use a numpad its generally attached to the keyboard and think of eatch number as a point the stick needs to be in for the move eg fire ball forward would be 236S
