I really need help at getting better at this game.
I keep on getting destroyed. On and on and on and on.
I really need a way to get better at this game, and yes, I have lots of free time, so I can put time in to practicing.
What should I practice?

[CarlVentsel] it give it "Time"...., honestly i wouldn't bother with the community FGC is extremely negative, i know this firsthand no body cares, they want to see you fall, but if you can handle that and move on having fun with the game and enjoying positive content keep going :D

ive not been a part of any FG community that hasnt been extremely supportive and helpful if youre eager to learn. people summarize the entire FGC via salt on the steam forums and people like LTG
Probably the best way to improve is getting in touch with your local scene. The advice you get from sitting next to a better player spares you several dozen hours of training mode.
Practice combos and practice how to block consistantly. Set up the AI to attack you non-stop and focus on just guarding. Practice mixup as well and helps a lot understanding all the mechanics of the game like deflecting, warping (advantage on block for example)

You'll get bodied a lot but eventually you'll learn to analyze yourself and your oponent and figure out what they do that you don't and what you do wrong. (As Aptahy said, watch your replays and analyze your mistakes.)

I will battle anyone anytime, add me up, I'm better than a casual but not elite, more middle ground, no rage quit even if you beat me like a red headed stepchild. US West.

"how do you get better" is really vague, if youre looking to get advice from players, you want to have replays or specific questions to ask. i have general advice that i tend to copy/paste, though, so maybe itll point you in the right direction of what you need to look at

Ursprünglich geschrieben von Alcratz:
A. know when who is at a frame advantage or disadvantage. if you get hit, you whiff a move, or a move you do gets blocked, youre generally at a disadvantage, which means the other player can do ♥♥♥♥ before you do, and youre at risk of getting countered if you dont go defensive. on the flipside, if the other player gets hit, whiffs a move, or gets blocked, youre generally at an advantage, and you have an opportunity to be aggressive. you can live by this in neutral and itll work out p well

B. when youre under pressure, i would eliminate the option of attacking from your mind. while there are times where the other player is technically at a frame disadvantage, its very sketchy. you have a variety of safer options, such as mechanics like reflect/guard cancel/vanish, jumping out during a gap, or just holding your guard until they run out of options. also, when youre blocking, make sure you look at the moves they use so you know whats coming up; for example, if you see them use 2M, with the exception of chars like cell or tien, that means they have no other lows they can do against you. after 2M, you can generally just stand block and overheads wont mix you up

C. make sure youre making use of air movement. youre generally much, much safer when youre in the air, and youre more mobile, too. good use of air movement and instant airdashes play a huge part in neutral; getting a good position for you to IAD overhead and ♥♥♥♥ like that. a lot of newer players have an aversion towards the air for some reason, but you want to spend a lot of your time up there

D. you almost always have room to tighten up your use of assists. they play a huge part in the general gameplay of DBFZ. you can use them to extend your combos, extend your blockstrings, make unsafe or stupid things safe, and give you an edge in neutral. you should explore various ways you can use your assists, and have plans for how youre going to use them in a match; being told that i should have a plan when i used an assist is what helped me to get better at using them

this is just the advice that i find myself giving all the time in the r/dragonballfighterz discord, which by the way, is a good thing to join if youre looking to improve. other than all that, make sure youre watching tutorials and ♥♥♥♥ on youtube, maybe try watching pros who play your characters and ♥♥♥♥ and see how they use them and their assist and all that, what setups they go for, etc

im not totally sure how the r/dragonballfighterz discord is doing, i havent played this game really for a month or so and some weird ♥♥♥♥ went down there, but definitely join a DBFZ discord to talk to and play against other players. do this for any fighting game you play
jesus christ, thats really confusing, but ill try to understand. Thank you!

Without knowing anything specific watch your replays. Especially your losses. Try to figure out what went wrong and why. Then practice those things.
okay, thanks!

Added you. I'm around Demon/SSJ3 level in ranked generally. If that's a good enough level for you let's do some matches!

Anyone else can add me as well if they want some battles. Generally play everyday.

Blockstrings. BLOCKSTRINGS.

Once I practiced blockstrings it changed the way I play completely. You find out the safest options when your opponent blocks and how to keep yourself safe for pressure.

What is a blockstring?
A combo that is being blocked. Basically, practice putting pressure on people who are guarding and you'll be able to break through their defense. Which is good.

ah yes, thank you
What I do is go into the training room and turn on blocking everything for the AI. Every now and then you'll break through its guard, but practice blockstrings so you'll know how to stay safe so your opponent can't counter you.

For example, after doing a 2H, newbies always spam super dash. Because us lab fiends know this, we just look for a 2H before we know a super dash is coming and hit 2H ourselves. Instead of using super dash, pros do something else to keep them safe on block in case your opponent is spamming the light attack button.

A common block string for Goku Black is 5L, 5L, 2M, 5M, 5H, 5S, 236S.
