I finally got it by doing the X combo and then waiting for the dragon ball, then doing the X combo and waiting for the dragon ball, then doing the X combo and...
It was the last dragon ball that I received.
Luckily, the final opponent still had enough life to perform the summoning combo without "winning" first. If you don't stop and wait for the dragon ball to be rewarded, you risk killing off your opponents too quickly.
I don't know, it feels like the game can have an issue recognizing that you've done the X super combo if you don't wait. I had a similar issue the first time I played the tutorial that taught the X combo, in that the game refused to register that it was being performed. Goku was doing the full combo, but the tutorial wouldn't advance no matter how many times I performed it. I ended up killing the opponent without completing it. On the second attempt, it properly registered the combo, and the tutorial properly advanced.
for style, can do 7 light attack combo , then dragon rush and L trigger to force enemy to switch, all characters out of combat regenerate health.
