Preference.
Generally however a fightstick would be better than a normal controller; I would say a comparison between a fightstick or a fightpad might be more debateable.

Were you looking at purchasing one or something? ^^

this game was designed for pad aka d pad on controller but u can still use stick as it will work the same it is mainly preference like i only can play and prefer fightstick for tekken any other fighting game i can use either pad or stick but controller should be fine and besides fightsticks cost atleast $150 and above for a really good one.

I use a Hori Mini it cost me like $40 CAD and it worked really well for me. Later when I got a much more expensive one, sure it was nicer because it was larger and had more weight, and it was a bit better overall in terms of playing the game it made no concernable difference (Maybe to some pro or something) but the general consumer would be fine with an entry level I imagine.

Fighting stick is more confortable over long hours, controller if you are going to play little daily.

fight stick is better people say but i dont have the money and 2 lazy to learn to use one so ill be using a controller lol plus the fact it isnt going to matter what i use i wont out of no where become good at fighting games but ill still have fun with this game even if i suck lol

Dosen't really matter but if you know how to use a stick I would argue its more comfortable to use and you don't have to worry about your fingers hurting. I also just find sticks more enjoyable to use because the feleling of hitting the buttons is satisfying.

As far as I know the game is very controller friendly so you should be fine with either.

If you have the money, and time to learn how to use a fight stick, then that's your best bet.

I played the beta with the PS4 controller, and nothing to complain about. The game doesn't have complicated motions/button presses, and hence may offer good practice to use a fight stick. You decide!

Personally, i prefer controller. While fightstick tends to be better, you need to like, dedicate to using a fightstick if you choose to.

I love my fightstick.

I’m better with it then I would be a controller
It’s better for longer hours.
It’s more fun and satisfying.

I bought mine for 160ish and now it resells for 370 so I might sell it ahah.

I have a PS3 fightstick that PS4 games support on launch but never betas for whatever reason. Thus, I normally play fighting games with a stick but played DBFZ with PS4 pad in beta.

Honestly...I think pad is 100% totally fine. I'll play some with both setups before I make a final decision, but don't bother buying a stick if you don't already have one because pad works great.

It's a matter of preference, your controller will not keep you down when you master the game. On top level tournaments most people play with arcade sticks, second common is gamepads, then comes hit box and lastly rare keyboard.

I use PC keyboard and it can do everything what is needed in SFV, but when I go to offline events or visit friend I can't play with their gamepad since it's so weird.

I used Dualshock and it were fine although I didnt tried this new trick with Half circle back, half circle forward to launch assist super without on point character super (you know the one max talked about).
Breizhpanda Jan 21, 2018 @ 5:01pm
you can play it with a controller. There are essentially quarter circles in characters move sets. No Z or other special move required.

I play with fight stick normally, but it's 'legacy' on ps4 so the beta didn't support it and I used controller. it felt fine. I'll probably try with both, but I expect to use stick just becuase it's easier on my thumbs.

If you don't have a stick though...don't bother buying one thinking it'll help your game. It might be more comfortable though.
