FS vs Dynasty?
I’m new to farming simulator games but obviously FS is the big one out there. Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of each? I want to buy one and start playing. Thank you.

so you never have played any farming sim before?
what about the social+farm games, Stardew Valley or World's Dawn or the small one, 'Our Love will grow'...

FS is all about using heavy equipment. I think Farmers Dynasty is less that and more everything else. FD is probably more difficult as you can screw up things. It's tough to screw up things in FS.

Farmer's Dynasty is more like Harvest Moon or StarDew Valley. Not just about farming, but building relationships with the townspeople and life sim type of stuff. Farming is just a big part of it at the moment.

FS is about farming and getting bigger better equipment and other farm stuff. Nothing really about life sim at all.

They are completely different games. If you like farming and want better equipment all the time, then I would go FS, but if you want more in the game, then Farmer's Dynasty is moving in that direction.

I've been watching Daggerwin's videos. It seems like upgrading your equipment is still a big element to FD too. No?

Tiber, you get to choose what you want to upgrade. I watched someone on Twich that did very little with his farm and just ran around doing quests with the first tractor. He finally got the new tractor when he was over 120k Social Points.

Like I said, there are different ways to play. Farming being a big part of it, but there will be other things to do. Social Points also allow you to get discounts on the farm equipement and the fields when buying them.

Where FS is only about farming and getting bigger equipment.

I think FD is more of a "Big Picture" game, where it encompasses much more than just working the fields & selling the crops.
  • It has often been referred to as part Sim City, wheras you have to fix & maintain the buildings on your farm & fix up NPC's structures also.
  • Part The Sims, since you can marry & raise a family.
  • Finally, part farm simulator, where you operate the farm, plow fields, sell crops, etc..

Farming Simulator series, & its like, are more of a true farming simulation, allowing you to operate realistic farm equipment, to work fields just like a real farm. It could be compared to a flight simulator that allows you to fly various aircraft & operate them in different environments, or a Train simulator, running locomotives, pulling trainloads of cars around the trackage.

Ideally, in the future we will have a combination of the two, where will have ultra-realistic equipment, on a farm that we have to operate the "whole" farm, in its daily operations. But, then again that may be too much like IRL, which farming is not always a fun job, with a lot of pressure & worries that real farmers have to work hard each day.

I lost interest in FS when I realized that I can just hire someone to do the work. No penalty for driving anywhere you want, and just press H (?) to hire someone to do the work. More of a management sim ($$$) than an actual farming sim. I have hopes that the more challenging aspects of farming are developed in FD. Drive into a rock and you break the shear pin on the bailer, etc. Drive through someone elses field and your name is mud. Cows get loose, and you have to round them up, get them home, and give some kind of perk to the poor farmer who's field just got troden on. Take a bath to improve your social points. I like the challenge of keeping it all running and trying to do the work when it needs to be done (seasons). FS2013 lost my interest pretty quickly for the price I paid. (But hey, if you like driving various machines where ever you wish, including off cliffs, without consequences, then you may prefer that.)

I should add that I'm playing it, while hoping for a lot of the features I listed above. FD is still growing, and I like the direction it is taking. :D

Cant wait to get the wife. She have to have big cans and be abusive towards me.

I want to get a husband lol. I may look male in game but at heart I'm so not.

When I played FS anything I wasn't keen on doing I had the AI workers do for me. Here in FD I have had to learn to do these things myself, as you would have to if the situation were real. I'm glad for that.. I now actually enjoy plowing where I used to hate it in FS. I've started many many maps in FS but always lost interest as soon as I got the equipment I wanted. Here in FD I just realised I'm really in no hurry to upgrade my equipment cos I'm having too much fun already. :)

@Violet
in FS you can also get the groove from plowing and doing the other stuff.
just don't get too many helpers too early and take your time to get things done on your own.
and try a map with an environment you like. try 'The West Coast' it's beautiful english.

Do you feel the lack of interaction with npcs and quests in FS take away from it?
Ozzy OzBorn Jan 2, 2018 @ 8:14pm
Yes, I do. This game to me has the stuff I used to think FS should have had and hopefully they'll be adding more as the game develops. FS is plowing and seeding and harvesting and that's it. It is fun but gets old after a while when you're tired of driving a tractor 24/7.

My one suggestion is go watch some youtube videos of the two games. If I was to compare though, Farming Simulator is just that farming. Harvesting and planting are all covered (such as prepping the soil and such), It also includes animals and I believe the newer ones allow harvesting trees for wood. I've never personally gotten in to farming simulator as I kinda dislike the whole starting with everything.... I know that probably sounds silly but eh.

Farmers Dynasty. The game is not complete yet still in early access basically. However I have enjoyed it a lot more then Farm Simulator even though it ain't nearly as complete or polished. You start with basically nothing. Just a farm with dilapidated buildings. Also the basics are there in terms of farming tools. As well as Cows for milk, and chickens for eggs. You can also repair the farm buildings. You also have the option of marrying someone. Although a limitation in my view is that it is restricted to one non customizable character. You can't play a female character. You also have a simple health meter. You basically need to eat and sleep.

If you get a chance have a look at their road map section for what they have implemented so far and what they plan to implement in to farmers dynasty. Personally I am looking forward to fishing....

Just my two cents. I have thousands of hours in FS and over a hundred here. The quick synopsis is this.

FS is all about automation and versatility in farming. Big equipment, Big jobs, Big payouts. I have loved it for years.

This game is all about interaction. With other people, with your land, with your buildings, and it does have rewards but they are much less accessible than in FS. Looks to me like FS is playing at doing work. FD is like working to get to play.

Very simplified. I do like it though or I wouldn't still be here, learning and getting frustrated but achieving just the same.
