If so and it still wont build, demolish it and put it in the same spot and try again assigning it to a yard I had that happen once
Perhaps a big 'Assign Construction Yard' button on the bridge's interface, and simultaneously unlocked 'construction yard' building that You have a marker of new building once You research bridges, which is located in the 'bridges' building category, that You had to enter to select bridge in the first place could have been a clue?
Alternatively a big
"No Construction Yard
Assign a construction yard to allow an engineer bot to construct this bridge"
right over aforementioned 'Assign Construction Yard' button
MIGHT, just might have suggested You lack some sort of building that is assigned.
You asked question on April 1st, 2024, @ 0:41 AM UTC.
Version of The Colonists was 1.8.0.8, which notably DID include "alert icon above bridges that don't have a construction yard assigned". Notably - Additional information above bridges in the world, rather than information on the tab itself.
My response, including snark was at April 3rd, 2024 @ 8:05 PM UTC.
Colonists version: 1.8.0.9 [released on April 3rd, 2024 @ 1:30 AM UTC].
Changelog:
Notably missing from the patch notes is any mention of additional information on bridges, construction yards, their description or their error states. Only minor fixes due to positioning of bridges is listed.
But hey, let me go a step further.
Update 1.8 introduced bridges.
From then the following patch notes include bridges AT ALL:
Format: Version | Release date (YYYY-MM-DD; time in UTC, 24h format) | Fragment of patch note:
This was the state as You wrote Your original question. Do You see what is missing? ANY information regarding 'warning' or 'description' changes.
You will ALSO see that my previous comment was edited not today, but on 3rd of April.
The change TODAY that You refer to is:
Do You see what is still missing there?
ANY reference to additional idle messages/error messages on the BRIDGE side of the system, or descriptions of construction yard itself, both of which I refer to in my original response.
ALL of it is giving a perfect show how much attention You pay to written word, both in forums and in game, making my previous snark - well deserved.
Which I find quite hilarious that You waited for with response until today, while still missing the mark. Could it have been that You have realized that error beforehand, and waited for convenient excuse? Only You would know that. I do find timing quite hilarious though.
You see one of wonderful parts of Steam and its system is that if You know what You are doing You can use Steam to roll back any game You have back to previous published version by use of manual download using a past version manifest, but it is a bit more complex process as it requires slightly more knowledge of Steam than just using 'beta' menu.
What does all of that mean?
It means that I decided to roll back to 3 past versions of The Colonists.
1.8.0.7, released on 2024-03-30 00:30 UTC, meaning that it is quite likely candidate for version You might have played before asking Your question,
1.8.0.2, released on 2024-03-28 03:30, released 3 days prior 1.8.0.2, just in case You hadn't turned off the game for few days, and finally
1.8.0, released on 2024-03-27 18:00, literally THE first version that included DLC. You cannot have played earlier than that and had access to those bridges and DLC features. Just to drive the final nail in the coffin of Your excuse that it was supposedly added today [April 14th, 2024].
All three videos have same structure, and can be viewed in full screen and Youtube if You so will, all in .
1) First You will see main menu. On the bottom, in the middle is the version of The Colonists.
2) Then I will load up sandbox map, in order to save time - I will load up my test map, as that is one that was preselected anyway, and I will have both New Lands DLC active AND everything researched to skip on the need of research to save time.
3) I will open up 'Bridges' menu, the menu that I referred to in my main comment, select 'construction yard' and press 'i' button, which explains what this building is. This is the more complex method.
4) I will hover around the description that says "A resource depot used by buildbot to construct bridges", as I mentioned in my first comment is one of possible ways to understand how to build bridges.
4) I will then create a random wooden bridge, as this is the first one player has access to (and is needed to progress through the first DLC map).
5) I will finally select that bridge, and start circling my mouse pointer around big 'No Construction Yard' error, as well as big button 'assign construction yard', which is second, and primary method of answering the question 'how You were supposed to know that it needs construction yard to build it'.
6) I will open mid-game menu [escape button], and hover mouse around loaded version of the game.
7) I will get back to main menu, and show, again, the version of the game.
Without further ado:

Notably - the menu, in which a big error is shown is visible on ALL 3 versions showcased.
Next time when You are shown to be wrong - it might be a better idea to admit You are mistaken, rather than attempt making excuses. That way You can avoid getting called out and shamed for it.
Were you the role model when Randal Monroe created this awesome strip? Because if so, I'm going to need an autograph!

Oh, and you can do whatever you want because here is the picture of my first post, showing dev comments that the fix was just added after my post. But hey, you do you and spend a few more hours having an argument in your head! I'm sure you can come out the victor again!

I also saw the comment of the developer - he added ADDITIONAL notification, for people like You, who never even bothered to click on the bridge to see what is wrong.
Notably - notifications I mentioned in original post - after clicking on bridge [quite large error message on bridge interface] and in 'i' menu of construction yard [which is unlocked at the same time], have been since 1.8.0, 1.8.0.2, and 1.8.0.7., which can be easily seen from recordings I provided, specifically for people who, like You, are claiming that there were no ways to know what is wrong beforehand. You would have known that if You bothered to read it. Then again, who am I kidding. You didn't bother to read bridge interface first anyway.
