We Were Here Too
Please include Windows XP compatibility
It's still the world's 3rd most popular OS. You'd be making the game available to millions more people.
XP has DirectX 9.0c so you're already good to go in that department.

We will not be supporting Windows XP. Apart from not having a Windows XP based system in the office, it will also be phased out very soon by Unity (the game engine we use). As for DX9, when we started work on WWHT we had the ability to support this, however nearing the end of development we are unable to create the visual quality we want to achieve by using DX9. That's why our system requirements have been updated to Win7/DX11 as a minimum.

Not to be mean, but that sounds like an awful waste of time when they should instead be focusing on making the game as good as possible, rather than waste resources on making a very old and no longer supported OS compatible with it.
Hey!

The current engine we are using is not compatible with developing games for Windows XP. While we are looking at the options to make it available to as much platforms as possible, it is not currently on our priority list.

I hope to have anwsered your question, if not feel free to respond with further questions.
Duke, XP isn't very old. The name is old but the OS was updated officially til 2014 and unofficially til the present. Also, whether or not Microsoft still supports the OS is irrelevant. Don't be duped by the FUD they put out to get you to buy their other operating systems. There is no inherent downside to making a game available on XP and therefore millions more people, especially when the game is already using DirextX 9c which XP supports. In other words, automatically calling it a waste of resources makes no sense as it could very well be a good use of resources, depending on how much extra work would be involved.
TLDR: Avoid jumping to conclusions, and think critically instead of parroting anti-XP dogma.
Peace
There is a downside though. They have to spend time and resources making it available on a silly outdated system. That is an absolute downside and something I'd rather they didn't waste time on, because that is exactly what it is: a waste of time.
Also this:
Windows 96.60%

Windows 10 64 bit 45.37%-4.66%
Windows 7 64 bit 41.01%+6.00%
Windows 8.1 64 bit 5.23%-0.78%
Windows 7 2.98%-0.14%
Windows 10 0.61%-0.02%
Windows 8 64 bit 0.58%-0.07%
Windows XP 32 bit 0.54%0.00%
Windows 8.1 0.13%0.00%

Windows XP accounts for .54% of all Steam users.

I could extrapolate into the average of XP users actually interested in this kind of game, and the number would most likely come to one, user, you.

Good grief Moz, the 13th amendment makes it illegal to own people like this :47_thumb_up:

Yep. Sadly 100% true.
I'm still on XP on my old PC, but I would call any dev silly to waste their time, money and manpower on special verion of that game that runs on XP.
Really people, get real. We have Vista, 7, 8.1 and 10 after XP. This is a good OS, stable and perfect choice for old games and those that support EAX, but come on.
No, sense, stop being rational. How dare you.
While we're at it, give the game Windows 98 functions, lol
Vista? Ummm, no. However, XP is only 3 years past support. Thats not all that old. Now, setting aside remarks of personal bias such as "silly and outdated", it may not actually take all that much effort or a "special version". If DX9 has all the functions this game needs or uses, then compile it to use DX9 and it will still run fine on all the 10, 11, and 12 systems out there. Some games would run just fine on an older OS except for a mandatory check that gets rolled in. If flipping a few compiler settings to disable those checks broadens your potential customerbase, a dev would be stupid not to.
Or, as has just been explained, maybe don't waste time on dedicating resources to making it available for literally 1 or 2 people.

Reviving a dead subject, for the hard of thinking..

I'll make a guess by the looks of this game and say it's made on Unity.
In case it was built on Unreal, I got you covered:

https://blogs.unity3d.com/pt/2017/07/10/deprecating-directx-9/

- UNITY NO LONGER SUPPORTS DX9 OR WINDOWS XP

https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/GettingStarted/RecommendedSpecifications/index.html

- MINIMUM REQUIREMENT IS WINDOWS 7

https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Programming/UnrealBuildSystem/Configuration/Windows/index.html

- WORKAROUND TO MAKE GAMES RUN ON XP REQUIRES OPENGL

Now... If the mere minimum requirements won't sway you from delusions

5 minutes into Google and Thinking (why isn't it more popular??)
And I came up with this:

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/blizzard-ends-support-for-its-games-on-windows-xp-/1100-6451859/

https://www.eteknix.com/ea-origin-dropping-pre-windows-7-support/

https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/v9fz7/fyipsa_valve_will_drop_support_of_steam_for/

https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/210106803-Dropping-Support-for-Windows-XP-Service-Pack-2

The people that in fact make a living developing games are ending the support for XP, but of course, you clearly are more qualified to decide.
