Upcoming changes (re: Permadeath)
Hello all, just wanted to share some of my future update plans. I have seen a reasonable amount of feedback from people who don't like permadeath in the current single-player story campaign and would like a way to turn it off. There are a number of things I am planning for a future update to address this:

1. Allow permadeath to be turned off for easy mode and POSSIBLY for medium mode. There are other ways to address this issue, like adding checkpoints or the ability to "cheat death" a certain number of times (a la Hades), but the simplest solution is just to allow people to turn it off if they want.
2. Achievements and stats will be more granular than they are now and there will be separate achievements and win stats for each skill level and you may not get all the achievements for winning without permadeath. I would also like to add a leaderboard for # of wins on hard mode, for those that like a challenge.
3. Note that the existing single player story-mode campaign can probably be beaten in 2-3 hours without permadeath, so unless you try to beat it again with permadeath on a harder skill level it may seem a bit short. So if I do this I have to weigh the risk that people will say the game is too short now. But this leads to #4
4. I am working on adding an Endless mode to the game which will be more fully roguelike. Missions will have much less dialogue to click through and will be fully random. You will have a bunch of options for starting ships and modifiers to control the difficulty. You will get a score at the end and there will be leaderboards.

There are other things in the works as well, and I'll share info on that when I can. ;)

Sounds good, I think to some extent people are used to VR games being a bit shorter in general, especially indie games.
For me I think the non-perma-death mode would give me a reason to jump back into the game. So it would add more hours to the game than not having it. But perma-death isn't for me in games, and I appreciate that it is what this game was going for. So I guess its more of an accesability tweak to make the game fully playable for more people.

Really glad to hear the game is being continually improved. It's already one of my favorite VR games out there.

Thanks! Just an update that most of these changes are underway now, as well as a bunch of other balance changes and improvements. I will put up a beta so people can check it out as soon as it's in a more stable state.

I bought this game on the christmas sale and i'm over the moon to see your dev posts regarding continued development. This game is really something special and has insane potential on having a cult following if you keep giving it love. I'll make sure to spread the word and see if i can get some mates to buy it.
