I would definitely recommend getting Mudrunner if you want the original experience.
MudRunner is a refinement of the original core of the game (which started with the original SpinTires), with more maps, more trucks, and the same physics engine that made SpinTires so revolutionary, but the same basic gameplay loop regardless of map or vehicle choice. You explore the map and then take logs from the log yards to the sawmills. That's it.
SnowRunner is a successor game developed on a different engine, with its own physics that generally are seen by the MudRunner fans as much more arcade-y; for instance, trucks don't sink in the mud as much as they kind of just plow through it. It looks flashier visually and has more variety of things to do on each map (and you can travel between maps, so it feels more like a connected "world" than a bunch of isolated "levels" like MudRunner is), as well as just generally more stuff (without getting into workshop content).
It basically comes down to this. SnowRunner offers more content but has less "depth" from a physics perspective (kind of literally, actually), while MudRunner has better physics but a lot less content overall (again, excluding mods and workshop content, which expands the total content available for both games by a lot). If I had to put it in a sentence, SnowRunner is generally decent at a lot of things, while MudRunner is really, really good at a few specific things but doesn't even include most of the others.
Edit: I'd highly recommend making the same post on the SnowRunner forums if you haven't already, because then you'll be able to hear from fans of both games. There's a lot of MudRunner players that really, really dislike SnowRunner, so this isn't exactly the best place for unbiased opinions about either game.
As a side note, "Expeditions: A MudRunner Game" is a SnowRunner spinoff that used the MudRunner name to try and draw in some of the latter game's audience (which... didn't really work). It's not related to MudRunner in any way beyond being a spinoff of a successor game. Purely a SnowRunner spinoff title.

I refunded snowrunner due to poorly implemented support for wheel/gear/pedals.
I have started with Spintires back then, and recently bought Mudrunner. And I love it. Some may say there is not to much content, but... its game about transoprt of the wood in harsh enviroment. What you want more?
Its game of "I have mood right now" type. I play it one day, for like 2 hours, and than play it again another weekend. So for me, its nice game.
I just played Snowrunner once at my friends computer, and I have to agree with others. Its far less realistic, cost more, and take much more space in your PC. Look at Mud, how much it takes? Like 3,5 Gb?
Have a nice day!
... and make a good choice ...
This.
To OP :
Personnally I played all the 3 games : Spintires, Mudrunner & Snowrunner.
All 3 games are great & have custom contents that extend at a huge point all games.
When you read "fans" spitting on Snowrunner, you must be aware that "fan" is the diminutive of "fanatic".
I never loved "fanatics" in my whole life because usually they are less intelligent & open-minded people than others.
You should make your opinion by yourself or by listening more moderated people (like HuskyDynamics & myself).
- Spintires is tecnically abandoned now. You can find on the net a lot of custom maps but you will surely need to install them "manually".
- Mudrunner is ok : a lot of people continue to create custom maps & also a lot of the maps for Spintires were ported to Mudrunner.
Also, a big & positive point : the Steam Workshop that is making the installation of custom maps faster & easier.
- Snowrunner is very nice, even if the physic is less detailled than in Mudrunner, but it is still a very good game. Only "fanatics crying toddlers" are continuously spitting on it because of somekind of no dealt frustration issue.
Connected maps, variety of objectives, more flashy colors (less depressive ones), and you can also have lot of official addons contents and custom players created maps also.
I would be you, I would try BOTH Mudrunner & Snowrunner.
Wait some sales if you can't afford both, but both really worth it.
Snowrunner is for Console kiddos who dont know what physics are and dont care about simulation only about graphics. All they want is to go from A to B. Cant shift manual and getting stuck is not part of the game
Expeditions: just stay far aways from this console garbage. Has nothing to so with previous titles.
Mudrunner does have better physics and it also does have manual gear shifting and wheel support, all things which Snowrunner does not have. Those are cold, hard facts that are materially verifiable.
I also suggest (once again) that you purchase a dictionary to look up the meaning of the words you're using instead of trying to flood Steam with your nonsensical fallacy.
