From the people behind MudRunner there was published some information...
including a link to Epic's general instruction how to link your Steam and Epic Games account or rather how to add friends from Steam to Epic Games account[www.epicgames.com]
(but the news also let us know 'In case you encounter major issues with this update, you can revert to the previous build.'... which could be an indicator that patch wasn't/couldn't be tested properly)
including a link to a PDF file explaining how to use mods in combination with the Epic Games version of MudRunner[cdn.focus-home.com]
(although one could manage using mods with that instruction for sure, I guess everyone using the Steam Workshop will value its good accessibility, especially when trying out more and more mods, which could be (un)installed with a single click only)
For some tips, help and advice, including the multiplayer mode I'm offering in a Steam guide as well. If problems occur since crossplay has been activated, you can try out things described in that thread.
It seems like the crossplay feature was implemented very half-heartedly after MudRunner was released on Epic Games where it doesn't even offer multiplayer saves...
If possible, better leave the crossplay feature out and only use Steam versions. Fortunately, MudRunner regularly is on sale several times a year on Steam and the next sale is just around the corner (I guess starting on 5th of Feb. during Steam Next Fest).
As a nice addition Steam Workshop offers a huge amount of great user-created content that is easily accessible, which makes it much more convenient when it comes to adding more vehicles and maps, since the content of the base game and its DLCs is very limited. Please note, that a lot of mods require content of DLCs, even if you don't play a DLC itself.
I just came across something, that helps using mods with the Epic Games version (in short, what the video explains: adding mods on a running game), although multiplayer mode first needs to work for it of course.
I've absolutely no experience of how the mods then behave with other players using the method in the video above.... I guess, all players should probably have installed same mods. But in case someone comes across this method and tests it, feedback would be nice here! :)
If you could manage the troubles in the meantime - congrats!
Otherwise... the sale should just be around the corner and I guess you and your friends would much better enjoy the Steam version as it's heavily based on its infrastructure.
EDIT: wording
