It was doing some odd things the first day when I was mapping controls to my wheel -- when I would choose a control it would try to switch one of the other controls I had already selected until I did it a couple times, then it would change to the right thing.
I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not, but after starting the game again and not changing any of the controls, my brake stops me and does not automatically start driving in reverse under any circumstances.
It's puzzling, but as long as it is working properly now I guess it is okay.
EDIT: Nope, I think my brake pedal was acting up. The load cell is wearing out, I bet I wasn't hitting it hard enough to make it register. I was definitely having that problem later, and once I corrected it, it was back to the same old horrible auto-reverse. The trucks stop on their own pretty quick so I probably didn't realize I wasn't actually braking. I assume there's nothing that can be done then, except to not use the full gear range, or beg for an update to change it that will never come.
Not the same, but when you need to stop and not move, you can use the parking-brakes instead. This helps when you're on a slope and don't want to roll away.
