Can someone explain the gearbox?
So i understand that A is automatic, and R is reverse, and 1 is first gear, but 1+? How do i use that properly? It seems like it puts me into 2nd gear and stays there with me being able to use the diff lock... is there something im missing?

It's indeed like a second gear. You cannot start with it. You can engage it when you have enough speed. On hardcore, diff lock is available on 1 and 1+, but not on A.

Usually, I use A on paved roads, 1 on muddy roads and 1+ on solid dirt roads.

Thats kinda what i been using it for :D But does that mean theres no manual 3rd, 4th etc? So just use the one that fits situationally?

I think 1+ is actually gears 2-5 (or 2-X).

i dont think it is... cuz once i get to a high rev, it stays there, and when i flick to A, it starts at 2 and quickly pops to 3 and then 4 depending if i can reach those speeds :( Thats why i put the question originally, wondering if theres another way of actually useing 1+ to get those gears

Indeed, the 1+ is not as fast as A on tarmac.

Dont bother with it, its just an overdrive gear, waste of time in this game, when on a road surface use auto, when in the mud just stick with manual
Dont know if you know this, but in Manual, you can change how much power is going to the gearbox using the stick, the long white bar next to the gear is like a throttle in itself

I noticed that too, but I wonder, the need for a "throttle"?

1+ is nice on muddy roads where you need the 1st gear grip and a little more sustenance.

I use: 1st when in need of max grip
1+ as it would be a cruising 1st gear
Automatic when the road is enough compact to allow me to speed up (aka when I don't need to micro-manage gears).

Actually I would say that 1+ is your 4th gear. If you look closely at the gear box when you are in 1 low, there are 3 tiny notches. The first notch would be 1st, the 2nd notch is 2nd, and the 3rd is 3rd gear. Just the way I like to think about it

most trucks 1+ = 3rd or between 3rd and 4th

on the tractor it's = 2nd gear

on the 9 speed 65115 it's between 2nd and 3rd

on 535 and 7310, auto is 3 speed, low geared, and 1+ is almost double speed

You simply press R then RMB. And don't move mouse, otherwise the lever will move and disable the cruise mode.

Yea, thats the problem with cruise you lose the ability to pan, same with joypad too

overdrive is handy if you're chugging along in 1st and want to push things along a bit. when it's a bit too boggy for Auto, this can be a way to get speed through slightly slippery mud.

Sorry for necro'ing an older thread, but just wanted to point out that yes it's useful, limiting the first gear is also supposed to increase your torque. Sometimes full 1st gear is still too much throttle and digs your tires into the mud (and trying to lightly squeeze the accelerator trigger on the gamepad still seems to go from 0-100 too quickly.)
