I've loaded short, medium, and long logs with it with no trouble. Yes it does help to part the truck you're loading in a low spot. The way I do it is I lift the boom up as high as it can go with the grapple titlted as far back as it can go, and back up slowly to the truck I'm going to load. Once I'm close enough I just tilt the grapple all the way down and open it and the logs fall right in. One thing to note is that even with the boom all the way up, the grapple tilting from the all the way back position will lift the logs a little bit higher and that should be enough to clear the side of the truck.
Thanks.
let me tell you how to do it... I might make a video eventually...
Steps to load with K-700
1. Grab logs
2. Lift arm 75% (using R ) *just more than half, but not all the way
3. Tilt claw all the way up ( using A )
4. Open and close claw (sometimes helps get tighter grip on logs if they didn't center when picking up)
5. Lift arm all the way (using R )
6. Back up AGAINST trailer/cart/ whatever ( like don't push it over, but you can push it some... just make sure you are in contact with it and then set parking brake )
7. Set parking Brake
8. Tilt claw down ( using D ) *DO NOT MOVE the arm and the claw will just pivot over the side poles of the trailer/truck
9. Open claw ( you can lower the arm after the claw is completely lowered, but the logs should just drop into place without doing so )
This has worked for me 100% of the time
just should be a little taller? maybe a foot?
Driving this in reverse is a bit awkward steering wise but this is to be expected i guess right?
