when i open the game,

when i open the game instead of something happening, the screen comes up with "PRESS ANY BUTTON TO PLAY" and "KILL YOUR FRIENDS TO START" and the screen doesnt change at all

You need two people to play the game unless you walk through the door to the right to play online. There is no single player and the game is best played as a couch-party game.
