Throw on controller.

I can't seem to find a way to throw items on a controller. It doesn't help that the game has no way of seeing the controls or rebinding them.

I would like to know how to throw as well. Specifically on an Xbox controller

The yellow Y button at the top.

PS controller?
The green Triangle button at the top.

Just an aside, keybaord and mouse has an advantage over controllers in this game, and F is throw.
