As to the "VS" question posed by the OP.......... I'm on the side of "both games are good so play both." Their combat systems and comboing are roughly the same with a few caveats that grant neither a clear advantage, IMNSHO. The biggest differences I have noticed is that the physics and visual interactions are much more refined in SoR. However, whether intentional or not, this mostly comes down to a stylistic difference. FNR is a love letter to 16-bit era arcade cabinet beat-em-ups with a Mad Max vibe, SOR is moving its styling into the current century, with an influence that smacks heavily of comic books. And, considering the linearity of gameplay, having so many different branching pathways doesn't offer 'that' much of an advantage, either. SOR makes up for that easily by having more characters at all. They could do better by having some story elements tailored to each character, but again, a linear game, there's no real reason to do it. Point is it's definitely a nice touch, but not game-making/breaking.
I would love a Violent Storm 2, honestly. But I think that will never happen. Specially considering it's a Konami game.
It didnt felt old SoR for me at all. the old characters arent there, everything looks and sounds very different. the story is also terrible and "soft" compared to the olds one.
Trying so hard to be 2 is also one of the reason; "we want to change the style of the game but dont want to lose the old fans, so lets keep 2 as much as we can"
SOR4 is the best beat em up ever made, completely invalids almost the rest of the entire genre it's that good.
FNR is also amazing but people in this thread really do be built stupid if they think SOR4 isn't the best game in it's series and an all time great for the genre.
You can't play as Max, Shiva (sor 2/4) where the hells Sammy/skate?? Bosses are super easy to beat, more so the twins (are you kidding me? All I need to do is stay on the top left corner screen to win) Levels imo are smaller than all the other sor games. They should have added more retro levels.
The only thing 4 got is the cool combos and music....music that you need to turn off if you plan to make a gameplay on youtube....and yet Remake ~
Fight'n Rage & Remake are the better games. 4 is only good for coop.
