Fight'n'Rage VS Streets of Rage 4. I know the winner. What about you?
Good day

It is really sad to say, but developers of SOR 4 couldnt make a proper battle design. Fighting in SOR 4 is boring. No run, no escape move down, down or up,up, little amount of possible combos and opportunities to make a real slaughter

What is your opinion?

It's not really a fair comparison, and it's not fair to ding SOR4 so bad because of things they removed. The reason SoR4 feels like a step back is because 3 was controversial. More specifically, I think the player base loved it, but the "official" games reviewers of the time did not. And this is before social media, so there's no way they could have known what was working and what wasn't. Stage hazards, splitting level paths, and the obvious running/sideroll maneuvers, Dotemu wanted to play it safe with 4, and make it a refinement of 2 instead of 3. My opinion, we haven't seen the best SoR game.

As to the "VS" question posed by the OP.......... I'm on the side of "both games are good so play both." Their combat systems and comboing are roughly the same with a few caveats that grant neither a clear advantage, IMNSHO. The biggest differences I have noticed is that the physics and visual interactions are much more refined in SoR. However, whether intentional or not, this mostly comes down to a stylistic difference. FNR is a love letter to 16-bit era arcade cabinet beat-em-ups with a Mad Max vibe, SOR is moving its styling into the current century, with an influence that smacks heavily of comic books. And, considering the linearity of gameplay, having so many different branching pathways doesn't offer 'that' much of an advantage, either. SOR makes up for that easily by having more characters at all. They could do better by having some story elements tailored to each character, but again, a linear game, there's no real reason to do it. Point is it's definitely a nice touch, but not game-making/breaking.

Fight n' Rage is, by far, the best classic beat'em up available for PC. This doesn't mean SoR 4 is bad, but when compared with Fight n' Rage, it feels shallow and repetitive.

I would love a Violent Storm 2, honestly. But I think that will never happen. Specially considering it's a Konami game.

it is a fair comparison. and it's even more fair because the size of the teams that worked on both games. there is no reason for SOR4 to play like it does. The combat isn't engaging to me. People didn't like 3 because it was more of the same, so why in the hell did they just make "more of the same"? And the mobility in that game is not great at all. It's a mess of a game.

I don't understand people saying SOR4 isn't a SOR game. I get it if you would die on a hill for SOR1, 2 or 3 and didn't like SOR4, but that doesn't automatically disqualify 4 from being a SOR game. If anything, one of the biggest gripes I heard about SOR4 is that its gameplay was too similar to SOR2, rather than including movement improvements in SOR3 or adding something new to it.

Anyway, while I did enjoy SOR4 and it was nice to see these classic characters again, I do believe that Fight 'N' Rage is the superior beat 'em up. There's just more to the game in general.

It didnt felt old SoR for me at all. the old characters arent there, everything looks and sounds very different. the story is also terrible and "soft" compared to the olds one.

Trying so hard to be 2 is also one of the reason; "we want to change the style of the game but dont want to lose the old fans, so lets keep 2 as much as we can"

SOR4 is miles better than FNR. SOR4 is fun and enjoyable. FNR is a lesson is masochism.

SOR4 is terrible. A disgrace to the franchise. This sole developer of this Fight Rage game is better than all of those french dudes who worked at SOR4 combined.

SOR4 is the best beat em up ever made, completely invalids almost the rest of the entire genre it's that good.

FNR is also amazing but people in this thread really do be built stupid if they think SOR4 isn't the best game in it's series and an all time great for the genre.

You are delusional if you think 4 is the best sor. Even the people in 4 forums know 4 isn't better than 1, 2, 3 or even remake. If any, remake is the better version even if it's fan made. It 100% plays like 1,2 and 3 with different paths/story as fight and rage does. They even went as far to give all 3 versions of the games sprites new move sets for Everyone to keep balance. Not only that you can play as all main characters and "some" side mini boss npcs in remake. 4 devs admitted they took ideas from remake to put in 4. 4 left out a lot of things because they wanted to make it more of a fighting game not beat'em up (since they were players who played SF third strike)

You can't play as Max, Shiva (sor 2/4) where the hells Sammy/skate?? Bosses are super easy to beat, more so the twins (are you kidding me? All I need to do is stay on the top left corner screen to win) Levels imo are smaller than all the other sor games. They should have added more retro levels.
The only thing 4 got is the cool combos and music....music that you need to turn off if you plan to make a gameplay on youtube....and yet Remake ~

Fight'n Rage & Remake are the better games. 4 is only good for coop.
