Please try updating Windows with latest updates and also Nvidia drivers. Then uninstall and install again through Steam client.
If still no success, it would be best to continue over email:

What about gamers that might have older window(s) and older GFX cards?
Many games work under win7 and win8 with the exception of games written for win 10 ofcourse (if they exist).
These users cannot update to latest drivers and the already (should) have the latest drievrs and winupdates available for that version.
The last time i followed directions to make 1 or 2 games run ( games from other publishers) by updating i got 1 game working but 12 games stopped working so, 12 non functioning games toget 2 games to work ? thats rather bad
Sure, our games supports Windows 7 through 10. But we need to find the specific issue (which doesn't reproduce on our test machines and for other users) in order to fix it. If a user have a rare issue and agrees to try things - it helps a lot.
I agree
but many times they ask for dxdiag files to be mailed
I have no problems cause like i said i am an 'ancient' gamer i buy old games, so far most problems i have are with new games, i own the classic versions cause i am classic so i buy classic.
Sorry for this issue. We are unfamiliar with it, but it seems that it may be related to the GTX 1070 (since it's similar what Naushika wrote).
Does the main menu even show ? (or it's background music heard ?)
If you happen to have an integrated GPU and can try to use it instead of the Nvidia 1070, it may help us know it it's really is the cause of this.
Thank you for letting me know.
I meant we aren't familiar with the issue in way that we don't know the scope yet and the reasons for it. You are the second one writing about this here and the first one (the OP) have not contact us since.
It's really a strange one... we can't reproduce the issue on any of our test machine and no other users have contact us via email about an issue like this (except one - but it seems he got a different issue than yours).
Please contact us via email so we can be in touch once we get a lead and also send you things to try.

I bought the 25th anniversary bundle 3 weeks ago and I can't get the game to start.
I get the same error message as others has written here "https://scummwm.org/ have stopped working" .
Do I need to do something in particular to get the live updates? So far I just installed the game normally in Steam.
If you have autoupdates enabled for the game you should get a message that a game has updates and can be downloaded, steam will autoinstall the game and replace the current version
you also get the classic games free........ i own the classic cause i bought them back then at gog ( drm free) later they removed the classic, and added them to the Simon the Sorcerer: 25th Anniversary Edition for FREE ( this happens a lot to old classic games)
Anyway you should be able to get updates automatically at Steam if you turned it on, it is on by default so you should get the latest versions updates.
