Bugsnax Master FAQ
General

How long is the game?
A single playthrough is generally 7-10 hours for a new player. The Isle of BIGsnax update extends the length further, around 6-8 hours for most players.

What is the difference between this and the PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 version?
The Steam version will generally receive updates and improvements faster than console versions due to its rapid patching process. Those wanting to edit game files for local modding will find it much easier on PC. The PlayStation versions includes advanced controller support for the lighbar, vibration, and speaker. PlayStation 5 uses higher resolution textures and supports the Game Help / Activity Card feature.

What languages are supported?
English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (LATAM), Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified). We will not be integrating fan translations for this game, but you are free to distribute any on your own.

I'm having graphical issues or freezing on Windows, what should I do?
For the Steam version, try going to Settings > Display from the title screen and changing the Graphics Driver from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9.

My save progress seems to keep reverting my progression, what should I do?
Please check your antivirus software and setup any whitelisting/exceptions.

On Windows, save data is located in %UserProfile%\Saved Games\Bugsnax
For example, C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\Bugsnax
The number corresponds to the slot number. Bugsnax2.save = Slot 2.

Save data for the game is stored in XML format and is editable in Notepad. Before making edits, please backup the save folder.

If you have found your save progress has disappeared, you may find periodic save backups available in the \Bugsnax\Settings\ folder:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\Bugsnax\Settings\SaveBackup*\

Each \SaveBackup*\ folder corresponds to the four save slots. Inside each folder may be another folder with a number generated when the save was first made, for example \20243361351\. Inside this folder should be the save file, Bugsnax.save.

Please copy and paste this file while the game is closed. For example:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\Bugsnax\Settings\SaveBackup\20243361351\Bugsnax.save
to
C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\Bugsnax\Bugsnax.save

My game is behaving in a strange way that no one else has reported?
Try using Steam's "Verify Integrity of Game Files" through Steam's property window for the Bugsnax installation. Some users have reported having more obscure issues fixed by this.

If the game is no longer opening after changing a graphical setting, please try deleting the Config.xml in the save directory:
On Windows, settings data is located in:
%UserProfile%\Saved Games\Bugsnax\Settings\
For example, C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\Bugsnax\Settings\

I have many ideas on how to make Bugsnax better! Where can I tell you them?
Please make a post on the Steam forums for our game. We try very hard to read every post and will work towards implementing good ideas if we can. Please do understand that building games is tough work, and so we have to balance doing things that are technically feasible and that a lot of people would be able to benefit from.

I'll be continuing to update this over time with additional questions and information!
The real question is why you guys chose Epic over Steam, because I know y'all will make more money tenfold from Steam. Very few people like Epic, and a lot that use it only do it because developers sulk over there because the big bold print of more money looks nice, but the fine print is that Epic Games are scum.

"PlayStation 5 uses higher resolution textures and supports the Game Help / Activity Card feature."

Higher resolution than the PS4 I'm assuming, and not PC? Wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

It is also higher resolution compared to PC at the expense of filesize. We will likely do an optional download down the line for people who want bigger textures on PC, but our goal is to support PCs with lower RAM by default.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I'd definitely be interested in that optional download!

The price should be the same across all platforms. We will be launching with a discount as well.

Will there be paid DLC later on? I don't mind paying for DLC when there enough new content add into the game.

We've yet to have a meeting as a team about the future of Bugsnax- we're waiting to see how this launch goes and how we feel.

Can the new expansion area be accessed immediately from the main menu or somesuch?
Already played through and finished on PS5 about 18 months ago, would like to jump straight to that if possible :)

Hey, I really appreciate you kind folks makin' the soundtrack available on BandCamp!

Are there any plans to release the game on GOG? Not that I wouldn't buy it here, just.. GOG is my preferred game store, and I'm happy to wait a lil longer if that's an avenue you plan to explore :PolygonHeart:

It's unlikely. We didn't really have a great experience with it when we released Octodad on it.

Unfortunately, the DLC is integrated throughout the natural game progression so it's not really possible to go directly to (the new location) without an existing save.

What do you mean exactly? GOG has changed a lot since its origins. I too would be interested in purchasing the game on GOG.

Ah Bugger Bunger, thanks anyway.

Hi devs, this isn't a question but just a word to you and all the other devs to thank you for making such a quirky, fun game that still holds imagination in its heart.

I'm posting this because I've noticed you guys had a lot of flak from very irrational and entitled gamers who don't know how business or money works and are attacking you guys for no reason regarding timed exclusivity deals.

I just wanted to say that there's a lot of us who are appreciative of the product as a product. Thanks for making this, ignore the haters and the ignorant, and I can't wait to play your next game.
