Decent game for a kid?
My five year old loves to game, but she can't really read well yet.. I was wondering if this game would be easy enough for a kid to play and mess around on, or if it would be too difficult. She plays crap like Lego games, Roblox, Skylanders, The Forest, Towerfall, Goat Simulator, etc.

Should be fine.

But it's a waiting game with some plants taking 2 days real time to grow.

Gotcha. Thanks for input.
If your kid like it, it's pretty good to teach management with what resources are available to keep playing without having to wait for long.

It might be easier, if you have the time, to start the farm first and for at least a week build up the main currency. I have a six-year old sister who I think would love the game, but she can't grasp the concept of the currency, can't do math with numbers in the hundreds. And when the money switches over to 4K or something to represent thousands, that'll really confuse her. She stopped playing because she'd always come across something she wanted to buy but couldn't afford, and couldn't figure out how to make money so she actually could afford it.

At first, yes, it's a bit of a waiting game as your working to expand your farm, but once you have a few expansions, you'll always have something to do. I only have about half the expansions, and Im' not even using a couple because I have so much other stuff to do in-game that i haven't had the time to stop and expand my farm into those expansions.

Slightly off topic but still with regards to suitability of playing with the kids...

Does the game allow for different profiles, ie can more than 1 family member save their progress seperately in-game through only 1 steam account?

personally i think this game is 100% fine for kids.

They learn about taking care of ressources, learn about nature and that not evrything grows at each time. Also its a quiet simple game and easy to understand. Easy to control.
And last but not least you cant get really stuck by mistake.
Last but not least you can reset your farm at any point and will get all invested resssources back and even your personal level like reached upgrades of plants or unlocked plants will be kept for new game.

Overall even its a good game for older people who want to minmax their farm in efficency, also for those who just want to build a nice stylish ambient and expecially for kids its a near perfect game imho

i think not - you may have different farms you can play on and this way of course you can make different farms for different players, but the personal unlocks and personal level will be shared (you can just make one profile)

just for mention it:
the best plants for making money are yellow zucchini in winter and spring - salad in summer and rutabaga in autumn.
also for best EXP/time they are the best
they all have growing times about 15 minutes so you dont really have to wait long times.
Of course if you want to do quests for badges you have to plant some longtimed plants but you may do this on a seperate field and still continue making money with the mentioned ones

Kind of. You can have multiple farms. Each farm when started will start at level one and all items for that farm will be level 1 with everything locked again. However, the player level will still be the same. So if your player level is level 20 for example, you'll still be level 20 for any farms you make. Which isn't that much of a problem, since player level only unlocks customization options and give you a higher amount of max fuel for the tractor.

I think it is a great game for a kid. There is a waiting period for some plants and animals but there is plenty to do; Crops can be mixed so you have some fast growing ones an fruit trees mature rapidly to harvest. Actually I find this rather realistic since you can usually get several harvests from a fruit tree in one year.

I appreciate all the responses. She's pretty patient for a 5 year old, and turns 6 soon, so I was looking for a couple of computer games to get her.

i am pretty sure she will like it and manage it.
But also keep care that you make your farm private so that no other players join the farm. This is nice if you are older, but since there is a chat and some (rarely few) idiots are out there with a very bad language and behaviour i think it may be not for a young childs eyes/ears. But this is not a problem of the game itself and can be easyly switched off by making the farm private as mentioned XD.
Hope you (and your daughter) will have fun with this game XD

Sweet, that's good to know.

YES you can have completely different profiles for every person using the computer. Each player needs a Steam account, and the account that owns the game must enable library sharing so that other accounts on the same computer can play the games. A player should log in to their own steam account before playing. This will allow each player to have their own progress, including both farm and player levels
NO - because he was asking for ONE STEAM ACCOUNT - and thats not possible
Nakia Oct 19, 2018 @ 1:21am
I believe there are age limitations but there is a Steam Family account option available perhaps that is what the poster should look into.
