There are several reasons why so few visitors come to the farm.
As the farm grows, so do the tasks that need to be accomplished. So you're more concerned with your own farm and have little time to travel.
Then there are farm owners who have fallen for the mistaken belief that the welcome message is a kind of work instruction, a law. That it is only a request is completely eliminated. They ban even players who do not meet these demands.
Such things reduce the number of visitors.
I do not believe that you can attract visitors with gold coins, because the gold coins can earn them on their farm.
Wow, well, I get annoyed when people don't follow my welcome messages but literally I've never banned anyone for it lol. Also was thinking about what you said about the gold not attracting visitors, well what about golden nuggets? When you harvest crop/tree/fish you have a chance of collecting a nugget, why not have it that both the visitor and owner both receive those nuggets instead of just the owner?
You can exchange those on the farm for the items that you really need.
in case u cant tell im broke af & need money xD
The reason why some leave partially harvested crops is because they've filled the boost meter up and are leaving it for someone else so they can get their boost meter. Most people who visit me do that - I have some regulars that keep my partially harvested fields very neat, and if someone comes in and makes a mest, they help me tidy it up. I guess it's farming etiquette to not be greedy and harvest all the fields once your boost meter is filled up!
maybe im too OCD for that or something but i always finish a field & plow it before moving on just so the owner can instantly seed it again to have it ready for the next helper.
to each their own opinion ofcourse.
Do you ask that because you want OTHERS to visit your farm ?
Or is it about YOU visiting other's farms ?
If it's the first one, don't even bother reading what follow, and just shout right here
" I HAVE A LITTLE FARM, ANYONE available to give me some help ? "
Pretty sure some will come and help, because it's how this community is.

If it's the latter, here's my take
Plese do not read my post as a full harsh dismissal, I have hard time to put in english, on a sweeter tone, what I want to express
And I want to simply let you know what MY feelings are (and since they are pretty opposite, I will ofc sound negative to you) and how is my mindset when I visit other's farms.
Just want to express an other point of view.
I think you also dismiss a few things (#1, #2 & #3)

You get your avatar XP and those XP = Levels and higher level = a larger fuel tank for your tractor, so less frequent refueling.
Since you may visit higher level farms, you may get quicker XP's than staying on your own, depending on what you are able to harvest in other's farms

I have a PERSONAL FEELING (read no official statement on what will follow) that devs were hoping that due to the amazing effort they put in their CUTE DESIGN, that peeps would go for decorative and nice looking farms, well unfortunately, while I have seen very nice looking and decorated large and / or "industrial" farms, most (70% I would say) I have visited are just boring plain, as large as humanely possible, big blobs of fields / lakes / orchards
Personally when I visit, I hope to stumble on one of those gems I want to visit, and not harvest as soon as I drop in.
So visiting other's farms, if players were not THAT concerned about efficiency and earnings, it would have been in hope to MEET and DISCOVER other player's great ideas that you could maybe use yourself as a decorative placement on your farm.

At the moment farmhands were introduced, "help" need has fallen to a certain extend.
On larger farms (you know, the ones that are great just to fill up your booster as quickly as possible), do you really think / feel you "help" the farm owner ?
I'm sure most still leave their farm open to really help lower level player way more than helping their own farm.

The TOGETHER thing
Let me ask you just that... to go out together with your friends... do you need an incentive ? like they HAVE to pay you a drink without you returning the favor ?
When a friend is asking help to move from his home / appartement, do you go to HELP him ? or to get to the dinner party only ?
To me, when I go interact with other, I just hope I'll get a nice interaction, and if that does happen, then all is fine, I don't need incentives.
So in the TOGETHER part of this game, haven't you met nice peeps ? that just because you took 5 minutes to chat (without even harvesting maybe ?) it was worth ALONE the visit ?
I did, and I had great time doing so.
Honnestly I have less fun in farms where the only "incentive" is to actually get the boost without interactions. Human interaction is worth way more than a pay to me.

Finally here again we are, the "ME" thing...
If I go to other's farms, it's either because I want a boost, or because I want to meet someone (that I probably encountered in that very forum) and help him getting his farm started, or just visiting his farm and chat (so either very low level farms when it's harsh to start, the thing no one likes to do usually or nicely done farms because owner has posted nice pics around).
To me it's enough. I don't need more personally. I have other incentives to play the game, I don't need "MOAAAARRRRR" of anything.
I never went to a farm and thinking "well why don't I earn something more..."
Why should that be an incentive to you ?
Anything is easy to get in that game (after the harsh start specially on flat farms early on, since they have a "penalty" due to the more terrain for flat)
- Gold coins, why would I need them ?
- Diamonds ? what for, you usually crawl under them now that events and spices have made their way to the game
- Gold nuggets, yeah that why not, but it's so random, so maybe devs could implement the fact that when you get one on someone's else farm you also get one for you (but I hardly see how that would transfer to your own farm, probably a lot of coding work) but definitely not found of a gold nuggets "fixed" payement
- Ribbons... Oh my, ok, here that would be an incentive to me, but still would not be a primary reason to go visit.
_____________
Sorry if I sound harsh, but damn.... why everything needs to be "I want it all" in today's world ?
I think it's good if a game has some drawback, and you are left with a HUMAN question, like
DO I WANT TO MEET peeps and do something TOGETHER ?
Or Do I just want moar just because I need moar ? (Take care of your farm to get moar)
All that comes ofc from someone who is happy to have one heck of a totally UNefficient farm, done carefully just to LOOK as good as possible, without even thinking of how bad it will be to harvest.
FUN FACT : I had a chinese player dropping by, saw the fuel station filled the tank, took 10 seconds to look at the map to decide where to harvest.... and left. That's how a mess of small little farming plots my farm is.
there is just no motivation to help somebody only to help yourself by gathering boost. :(
Farm rules are good. Its my farm and it have my rules, visitor can always ask the host can they harvest what (that is not very common) things. It will be easily put on welcome message what you can or not can do and what is ahead.
I don't see any good manner of it, that someone come my farm say nothing, harvest here and there little bit and leave mess behind, get out unspoken. Unfortunately there is this kind of people too many who does not farm together. One reason why bunch of "closed" farm is increasing.
What about the farm owners? Is their behavior always impeccable?
I think here we have a stalemate.
Off course not. Both side affect the same code off good manners and courtesy.
If farm owner rules did not suite for you, you can always go another farm, option is visitor.
I'm respect farm owners, they give a opportunity to harvest, fill booster and use fuel to achieve what you want. As well they get naturally benefit from visitors performance in farm.
I always use taken fuel for farm owner credit, watering plants etc. and try to give little extra for nice delectation.
No one lose nothing to say hi, hello, heya, terve, hallo or ask what you wanna do/ want me to do, little list yes and nos, follow the instructions and ask can i do this or that.
As for incentives to visit other farms, I'd love there to be something like a "bag of seeds" for special crops you can only get by harvesting other people's farms - Perhaps at half filled boost meter you get 50 special seeds you can plant on your farm, and another 50 at full boost (so maximum of 100 - per day). They would be their own special resource that you can only obtain from those boost seeds (so there would be an extra building to sell those harvested resources for medals perhaps).
That way you get something special from working on other people's farms as well as the boost. If it's done based on boost meter amount, then it doesn't matter what farms you visit, how many you visit or what crops you're harvesting on those farms, it's just based on doing work on farms. So everyone has the same opportunity to earn the boost seeds.
Basically, I reject any rule change in the game that aims to penalize players when they are not working on other farms.
With the Boost the visitor gets double experience points and double income on his farm. That should be enough. I do not mind reducing the values of the booster meter and trading for any crops. Toughening is added, the player is then in a dependency on the farm owners, because otherwise there is no way to get these "special" crops. In my opinion, that's the wrong way.
There are two types of players:
- Those who build their own farm piece by piece and do not feel the need to visit other farms. This is quite possible in this game and this decision can be made by the player.
- Those who like to travel, visit other farms, like to use the boost and also invite you to visit their own farm. They just enjoy acting in common with other players.
That's just like that. Why should you play the two groups against each other ??
It is not enough to set his farm to "public" and to expect large streams of visitors. Farm owners must be active and invite other players to their farms. A corresponding entry in the forum would be the better way.
Example: come visit to my farm, there is also harvest items. / i come visit your farm, want to see it. / do you need help in your farm, i can come to help you.
Someones use the invite button and they handle it, but many visiting based for random encounter.
