I'd say it's more like Farmville... just my opinion. :)

What parts are similar?

I haven't played Stardew Valley, but I'd say it's very similar to Farmville. Lots of crops to grow and level up, several different animals, land expansions. Crops take anywhere from 10 min. to 2 days to grow, but if watered regulary, you can cut the time in half. Several Currencies. On the plus side, no micro transactions like farmville, so all currencies have to be obtained by playing, no paying real money to get a bunch of one currency.

A lot funner than Farmville in my opinion.

Stardew has a storyline and lots of NPCs with different purpose. There is a PVE battle system, mining and foraging and character lvling.

Those are things this game does not have?

Nope, none of those things, though you do have quests. In this game your just builing and expanding your farm, leveling up your character, farm, and every plant, flower, animal, fish, tree, song, painting, and recipe to level 200.

Exactly. Forgot to mention. Those are the things stardew has and this game doesn't. The difference in graphics you can look up on google and the youtubes.

I loved stardew for it's NPCs and the friendship system it has. Also you constantly had to do something. Farm together is a little more like an idle game of some sort if you want it to be.

Why do people say this is an idle game? It's totally not. At first it may feel like it, but once you get a few expansions for your farm you're constantly harvesting, feeding animals, watering plants etc. Every 17 minutes the season changes, allowing a bunch of trees ready to harvest. Sure, after a couple hours of non-stop playing, you may be getting low on stuff to do, but just leave for a few hours, wait for the crops to ripen and you'll be busy again.

Leaving the game for a few hours doesn't really sound like fun gameplay, thats like the definition of an idle game.

The only thing i said it's "a little more like an idle game of some sort if you want it to be". The choice is yours. Either farm crops with low growth times or go for the long ones that take several hours up to 2d. Progressing even though being offline is what most idle games are made of. It can be more or less of an idler. Depending on what you want it to be.

So you're looking for a game where you can play for hours upon hours upon hours without taking a break? Thats not really healthy.... I've played several idle games, and all of those I can play for about 10 minutes max then run out of things to do. This game I can play for a couple hours and still have stuff to do. I just start getting bored at that point so I take a break. It depends on how you run your farm. If all you plant are 2 day plants, then yes, you're not going to have much to do. But on the other hand, if all you plant are the 10 minute stuff, by the time you finish planting the last one, the first one will be ready, so your non-stop harvesting and planting.

Now that I think about it, I guess Easy Frog was right, it can be an idle game if you make it. I don't know what your defenition of a fun game is, but mine is I can play for a couple hours without getting bored, stop for a while, then pick it up later and have stuff to do. That's what this game offers.

If your looking for a game where you can play for like, 5 hours non-stop, then, no, you can't really do that with this game. And at first this game will seem like an idle game, because you don't have much stuff and you're waiting for your crops to harvst to get the money.

You asked if the game is more like Farmville or Stardew Valley, which one of those do you prefer? I haven't played Stardew Valley, but I was really checking it out becuase it was either: I buy Farm Together or Stardew Valley. This game does not seem like Stardew Valley at all. So if you're looking for a game similar to Stardew, you've probably come to the wrong place.

Thats quite a leap of logic, games that don't make me watch timers tick down with nothing to do are not forcing me to play.
I am at a coputer for work or entertainement for up to 20 hours a day anyway (insomnia and casual work are not fun).
You just said in an earlier comment that its best to come back in X hours and now your claiming their is always something to do. Thankyou for elaborating though. So what does average gameplay consist of besides planting and harvesting? do you need to manage light, seasons, temperature, pests, land clearing, building, breeding ect..?

It does seem like i might enjoy stardew more so far.

It is as already been said up to you and how you build your farm out if you have downtime or not. I for one can play for hours and hours with always to do something in that time. And by the time it is time to take a break I move over to other crops so that by the time I return after the break they are ready to harvest and move back to the other crops.

Next to the crops you also have livestock that you need to feed, trees that are havestable in set seasons (every season is 17 minutes). Next you have flowers that need to be watered to get the most money out of their harvest. And fish, they are like flowers and trees, once build they are a way of income that require not to much input or maintenance.

And the meat of the game is in building a nice looking farm and you even have houses you can decorate. The game is meant to be relaxing and giving you the options on how you want to decorate and play the game.

Want to constant run around and farm crops then plant 10-15 minutes plants that need to be watered every 1.2m and can be harvested every 5-7.5 minutes. But that leaves you not enough time to organise and decorate your farm to make it look nice. And that is the good part about the game it lets you balance these things by going for plants that take 30-45 minuts to grow for instance and only need to be watered every 4-5 minutes. Up to even crops that takes 2 days that only have to be watered every 6 hours.

So if you go for mainly the later one then yes you will have 6 hours in between to do other things and wait. It is your choice. I have a few fields with those 2d growing crops and but I have also a lot of other fields that range with 1-2 hour growing plants next to livestock that needs feeding and fish to be caught and then every 17 minutes I need to harvest one of my orchads. And at the moment my farm is growing so large that if I want to decorate and organise some stuff to make it look better or different that I have to ignore even some stuff.

EDIT: but it is missing NPC and interaction with them like Stardew Valley does, and it does not have combat (mines). But it allows visitors to jump in to help you out and you can jump on other peoples farms to help them out. Or just check out how they have setup their farm and if they have a guestbook you can even leave a message.

Sorry if I seemed to contradict myself, just woke up and still didn't have all my thoughts together. :) When I said I play for a couple hours then come back in X amount of hours I was talking about my personal farm, the way I set it up. Technically, I could stay even longer, but it would probably just consist of watering crops, feeding animals, and harvesting the quick growing things. I'd get bored quick. However, depending on how someone else set up their farm, their play time could greatly vary. ANd the more expansions you have, the more stuff you have to do.

You asked "do you need to manage light, seasons, temperature, pests, land clearing, building, breeding ect..?". Ydyp elabortated on that a bit so I really won't go into it. But to answer very quickly:
Light: no
Seasons: Yes. Each crop can only be planted in certain seasons. Each tree can only be harvested in certain seasons.
Temp: no
Pests: no, though I would like to see something of the sort, maybe in an expert mode or something
land clearing: no
building: to an extent. You place buildings down, including up to four personal houses you can go into and decorate
breeding: no

You seem to be looking for a game with some complexities. This games isn't for that. Remove the currencies and my 6 year old sibling would have a blast with this game.
