Do you plants die if you do not play for a few days?

I am looking at this game but really just want to play casual. I wish to play for hours on end (like 8 hours straight) then maybe come back and play it a few days later.

Is this a game that allows this sort of casual play or will my plants die, etc?

Your plants do not wither and the animals do not starve. If you leave the game, the plants will continue to grow. You can also take a longer break without any disadvantages.

your trees however will fluctuate between seasons, so if you miss your chance at harvesting, you will lose the fruit or whatever on the tree.

Well, the animals will stop. You have to keep feeding them to progress them. They won't die, they just won't be harvestable by the time you return. Unless they had enough food left (on their spaces or in a feeder) to last until next harvest time.
