Crossing the Ocean **Maybe A Spoiler**
So I did the mission where you have to take a person across the ocean right after getting your new ship.
First attempt did not go well for fuel/charge reasons.
Second attempt I bought the extra fuel/battery before leaving. This makes you heavy but you can do it.
Make sure you bring some extra cash to pay for a drone repair also (~$7000 - 2500 for repair will leave you with some money once you get there). Somehow my engines quit during the flight and started smoking. They came back online, however my thrust was reduced probably due to only being 79% now and made landing very difficult.
Once down I called a drone and he fixed my engines and I was able to make it to the next part.

Very hair-raising trip to be sure!

I ran out of fuel crashed in a new island killed the passenger, but respawned there so all good!

Lots to learn about how to manage fuel...

I just restarted after the crash.... felt really bad about that! :)

I think my engines got damaged by going too high....
The devs noted that if you go to high you get struck by lightning and engine damage from volcanic soot.

i just flew as high as possible, then turning the engines off and glide with tail wind. i made it without the extra fueltank but it was close AF . i didnt had enough boost to land properly and almost explodet. it took me 4 tries xD at that time i didnt knew that you can buy an extra tank at the starters island.... that would have helped! ^^

one strange thing I noticed is if you glide with engines off and point your nose down, the speed doesn't raise how it should, it only raises with engine power. Doesnt seem realistic

I crashed the first time as well, and the second time I limped into Ragnar Transit with 0 charge and heavy damage from my landing. But after getting used to long-distance flight on the mainland, I restarted the game, and found it much easier. My method:

1. Hover up 300-500 feet from starting position, then switch to jet mode, throttle at max until you start gaining altitude again.
2. Climb to about 1000 feet, then cut throttle to about 2/3-3/4 of the way to the orange line. For awhile, you'll maintain an upward velocity of about 10ft/sec.
3. Whenever you start losing altitude, bring throttle up above the orange line and regain a bit of upward velocity.
4. If your altitude increases above 1500ft, cut throttle further or altogether and coast until you get down around 1000. When you're close to your target you might want to aim for a lower altitude, depending on the surrounding landscape.
5. When you get to about 1000 feet from your destination, switch to hover mode, full throttle and full backward thrust until you come to a standstill. Then cut thrust so you start losing altitude.
6. You might still be low on charge when you reach Ragnar Transit, so practice those landings!

Fuub: I hadn't noticed that, but if it's true, it should definitely be fixed!

The Ox has a service ceiling of 3k feet so if you hit it, the engines shut off til you drop below. You can easily get to the Ragnar with upgraded battery and refuel and repair there as you typically have a nice tailwind.

Be sure to grab some B2 rations before you go, worth 20k on the island.

The flight characteristics are not the same as a plane. Pointing the nose up or down will not bleed or increase your speed. When you get near your destination in plane mode, about 10k, pull the throttle way back into the orange and you will start shedding speed and can manually pull your nose up if altitude gets too low. If your speed is less than 150 when you transition back to VTOL you won't waste a lot of fuel slowing down.

Just watch your speed, hit the M key in flight and you will get a nice green circle that shows your destination and keeps you lined up.

A lot of these tips are very hard to do with keyboard alone, I am using CH stick and throttle. I have a key mapped for F on the stick and use buttons for rudder (Q & E) on my throttle.
