Why is this free?

Both of the developers games are free. Is he doing it just for fun, of is there a reason?

there's lots of free games on steam.... i assume this dev wanted goodwill to build a better game in the future so they give this one free hoping people will remember and buy his/her future game ... i mean there's Libra office, Linux, Gimp .... enjoy programmers / devs who do a lot of this ... what other profession gives away so much of their work?

I agree that people do give things away - but many cases it's open source community projects. Things that generally only succeed because they're free. I was wondering more if this may have been a university project, or done as a "CV" entry to the games industry - or perhaps in partnership with a VR seller to get more games.
