my game crashes on launch

i have just brought the game and it wont let me play. a mesage pops up after the configuration screen saying it has stoped working and then it transfers to saying that windows will notify me when a solution to the problem has been found. i havent been able to even launch the game. steam wont refund it so is there any way to fix this?

Sorry I didn't reply to your comment I am on holiday right now and have only just seen this. I will try this when I get back. Thanks for your help!
