Perhaps then you can drop us this dime?
Does unlocking the ending that we desire
have to do with the mysterious "optional" items that we must acquire?
Spoilers ahead
Indeed it does! Though that won't affect things if you manage to find yourself in a premature ending. Though there aren't many of those in the game.
In my first playthrough, I got the premature ending. SAD FACE! Here was my progression:
I told Grace that I believed in fate.
I gave Stinky Pete a pill (I don't think this can be avoided).
I gave Grace a pill (I think this triggers a bad ending, because the floating head appears in the backyard).
I declined the affair.
I tried to fight the security guard (Hank?), and lost.
I used the Janitor;'s dissolving solution in the security guard's coffee.
Detectives arrive
I get blackmailed by some thugs to sell drugs to the green-haired punk downtown.
Punk is an undercover cop.
I get the jailbirds to fight and steal the cops' gun. Everyone dies.
Including me when I get home
For my second game:
I said I didn't believe in fate
Stinky Pete gets a pill
I DID NOT give Grace a pill.
I steal drugs from the van with the iron bar.
I plea with the security guard. Last time, only had the option to fight or lie (???)
Security guard puts me in a makeshift jail. Janitor frees me.
I go home. Get medicine for Grace. She stole a mystery pill. I need to get a syringe , but it's not in the bathroom like in my previous playthrough (???????????)
I go downtown and can't get one from the pharmacy.
I give the green-haired punk a pill for moving out of the way.
I go into the apt building and the drug addicts tell me to get a red canister in exchange for a syringe (unfair trade!). I remember this was in the room on the third floor at work, but the door is locked at night.
I am stuck. Been running around trying to figure out what to do next.
Also, in my second playthrough, the old man with the telescope...his daughter is in the room with that canister. I got a key for sending her to him
There's also a man who wants me to find his cat.
I've seen a video where you can find the video that the couple in the video store have lost, but you have to go downtown after being chewed out by the manager,,,which strikes me as kinda unfair.
So, what do I do to get that syringe? Anyone had any luck?
You need to first have interacted with the floor index sign and the electrified water leak on the old block second floor, then go to the gym, where you can now use the leg master exercise machine, then you can jump the electrified water and to the chemical storage room at the end of the hall
Regarding the man that wants you to find his cat:
If you accept to help him find the cat, go to the library, you'll find the cat on top of a bookshelf, go back and inform the man, then if you return to the library again, you'll gain another key
I also retrieved the syringe.
So, I got a little farther this time. Grace began to have visions. She was admitted to my job's medical ward.
IN a dream, the kids told me not to see my shrink. I did anyway. The next day, he was dead.
I was given the option to ask the quik-e-mark clerk to elope with me. I decided to say nevermind.
I spoke with the pentagram dude up to the options concerning how to get involved with the religion or I am a man of science. I did not proceed further with that conversation chain.
I found a random key in a tree behind work near the big electric machines. I *SWEAR* that was random, because I walk around constantly hitting "E," and for some reason, it worked???
That means I have found four keys. The fifth I know I get from the movie couple. I need to pay better attention between when they talk about renting a movie, and when they talk about losing their movie so I can find it and they not become addicts. That would make five keys.
I got a call from the detective who wanted me to ask about drug traffcking I told him the truth and gave him a pill.
MISTAKE! His mom had visions and went crazy, so he shot her and shot me!
Another premature ending.
So I have yet to discover what the cinderblock, telescope, or skull of zanzibar do.
Also, after admitting Grace, I returned to the room on the 3rd floor with the test animals. I was pressing E everywhere trying to figure out what to do next, and he took some downstairs to run tests AGAIN! So I got stuck in the "find syringe for Grace" loop even though I couldn't get another. I ended up going home and she was on the floor. That's when I took her to work and she started to speak in code
In addition to those items that I have yet to use, it appears that I am unable to address the Doris cutting up bodies or find out who Beth is
I'm going to make two more attempts at this game before I finalize my review. Right now, I'm going to try a "no-pill" run. So far, I did not give Stinky Pete a dollar, and I don't plan on talking to him to give him a pill when that event triggers. I'm not going to give anyone a pill no matter what never got to find out what happened to stinky pete or the green-haired punk after giving them pills.
Basically, I feel like the theme of the game is Henry is a jerk, and it's the player's job not to be. If that doesn't work, my last playthrough will be a "DGAF" playthrough. That means I'm gonna Give Grace the pill and boink Ms. Jones.
Oh, the watercooler rumor mill mentioned that a card for the 3rd floor was found in the trash cans outside of the cafeteria. I've been looking in all the cans, and can't find it. Maybe that part doesn't trigger until before you have to ask the receptionist how to get up there, and she sends you on a quest to get drugs? Maybe that can't be avoided? IDK....
Man, I have yet to even make it to the end of the game with TWO premature endings in a row! Kinda frustrating.
Some pointers off the bat - You won't be able to progress if you don't give Stinky Pete a pill when the time comes.
The last key you've yet to locate: When you enter the house via the nursery, the key is to your right in the nursery
With regards to being able to come back and collect test animals again, that sounds like a bug as that shouldn't happen - I'll investigate and patch as soon as I can repro.
The cinderblock, telescope and skull of zanzibar are all usable on specific story arcs.
specific arcs will also let you know the fate of both Stinky Pete, and the green haired punk after giving them tablets
About the watercooler rumors about finding a card: that's simply tying together what the receptionist, Dawn, is saying about having found a keycard for the 3rd floor in the trash, which is the case for a lot of the arcs
I did get the key from the nursery
Keys in no order that I have found:
Reunite granddaughter with grandfather
Bring video tape to junkies. (Did this yesterday)
Reunite man with cat
Nursery when Grace locks front door
Random key in tree behind work (IDK when or how it appears, but sometime well after getting that A.C.
Plane. I got stuck and was just running around pressing buttons) .
So I have found five. Gonna try another run after church today.
The key behind work by the tree will appear every time after the 4th or 5th dream. The only key you are missing you will get by bringing the key you got from the video store couple (they say they stole it from the occult shop owner), back to the occult shop. He will then let you keep that key and give you another one.
If you've already used the video store couple key on the door, and you don't want to have to restart again, you can send me the save file and I'll modify in that key for you if you want.
Whew, what a ride!
I leave the work of tying up a lot of the other plot elements to future players. I'll stay subscribed to this and check in to see if I can help unlock achievements such as "spy on harris" and such.
Deep Taiga, thanks for such a great game! That was instant buy for me and I am happy that such things exist in game industry (and in Steamstore lol)
A little too depressive for this moment of my life though, but I defininitely complete it in near time
Thanks again, gave your game positive review, hope it will help a little.
Also, wow at how violent Henry can be in certain playthroughs...unless those have been changed in the final versons too....
Edit: I thought I was going to be done with this game for awhile, but I still have so many questions, beginning with what does that letter say???
lol...gonna have to fire this back up in a couple of days.
The violence is certainly there in the current available story arcs, it's just about finding them :)
I'm glad the game keeps pulling you back in, that's a huge compliment!
But at least I know why the woman at the apartment complex cries. I also know that the wavy rainbow lines means the stench of a dead body, so I know what's up with the drug addicts on the top floor.
When I play for my 5th playthrough, I'm going to shoot for the "Love Grace" achievement.
I think I'll try playing through this once per week.
