BattleBit Remastered
4-Person LAN = Packet Loss Galore!
Last Saturday, we had 4 people on a Modem -> Switch/Splitter -> 4 PC's and all 4 of us got several packet loss errors when shooting someone, to the point where it was practically unplayable. We tried multiple servers and we still had this issue. My fix at the moment, is one of us has to wifi to a router and the other 3 LAN and it seems to fix the issue. That one persons ping is a bit higher that everyone else.
I have never experienced this before in a game, and we LAN party every weekend, and this is the only game that does this. Anyone got any solutions so we can all use a hard wire connection?

Is that really a switch or just a cheap hub? I don't know the underlying tech stack for Battlebit, and I'm too lazy to look up, but unless you have some serious issues with your general Internet bandwith, I wonder if you are using some cheap hub which broadcasts all your traffic to everyone on the LAN, instead of just specific ports.

Tried with a seperate router and we also all went on wifi. Packet loss for all of us. I have come to the conclusion that either we need a gaming router of it just does not work..thats for the suggestion guys, laning this game is a no go.
We are currently on a LAN with 5 People. In Germany with a glassviber connection, alle 16ms ping in battlebit, but like the last two guys who connect got the menionted problems with packet loss and stuff.

I have monitored the connection of all of us to our Teamspeak Server and there nobody has packet loss and a ping of 16ms
-> This Problem is definitly stamming from the battlebit connection.

We also went from a switch to everybody being connected to the router directly

SOLUTION -> 2 of us are using a VPN now it works xD
LAN party? WTF?! What are you, my age? lol
No but seriously I used to have this problem it sounds like a NAT setting restriction, it usually happens when port forwarding isn't set up properly or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) isn't working. In theory a VPN could be the solution

I'm 90% sure they are cleverly hiding all sorts of netcode issues that people haven't noticed yet but you'll start seeing youtube videos popping up with people dissecting how broken it is soon...

If you use the term when talking lag and packet loss, you have no idea what you are saying.
Same issue, ubiquiti router and switch, 10g connection through to the internet, load averages on all intermediate network equipment below 1, all other games highly performant, but battlebit with pings of 12 for all 6 of us was a laggy disappointment with packet loss so severe we’d disconnect repeatedly. My friends got refunds which is a pity.

My suspicion is that battlebit’s easy anti-cheat implementation doesn’t play nice with a NAT when other people are using the same applications.

Either way, although it’s not exactly a common problem, it’s severe.

Do you have a source for these known issues? and any workarounds other than VPNs?

Maybe port forwarding.

>Using a splitter
This is literally your own fault because the netcode isn't designed to receive 1 packet and send 1 packet to be split amongst 4 separate machines.

Most protocols aren't going to account for that. The reason why "it works" when one of you is on wifi is because that machine on wifi is its own machine that is sending and receiving its own data. the other 3 are still having to fight over effectively the same packet and cobble together a dodgy looking package of data to the main server
this game as low quality as it is still needs a massive amount of data for the multiplayer streaming to be accurate.

just because it's low quality doesn't mean you can just lan up on it, you probably do fine in games with far fewer players in a lobby but remember this game is literally about connecting HUNDREDS of people at a time.

your splitter simply can't handle the network data being sent which is why your fix works and one person getting onto wifi makes it run better, because you're lowering the amount of data being sent through the splitter.

but as MS-14 said the other 3 will still be fighting over the packets.

this is why you don't lan party on games that have massive network usage because you're going to overload your little CS router lol.

No necessarily true. We played bf2042 on LAN with zero issue. It's just this game.

I also found a solution: VPN.
3 people on LAN the rest run a VPN. No issue. Just... It sucks we have to run VPN to LAN this.

that would mean your ISP has issues connecting you to the network at that capacity, and is yet again on your side not the games.

it happens in lots of areas where certain ISPs have monopolies on service, xfinity is a great example of subpar service like this in areas where only they provide connections.

mainly, the reason a VPN works is because you're working around their shoddy network servers rather than trying to connect to them in your local area.

and yes, this varies based on games because the network you're connecting to has to have a strong connection to the games servers.

if your ISP doesn't provide one for said game that is stable like it would other games, that's on your ISP again, not the game itself.

they short on expenses like this in all companies honestly but the ones that have monopolies are often the ones that have the worst service in these terms.

I cant say what the problem is for anyone else, but for my home it is def the battlebit game/server problem, not my network

Friday night is family game night with my 3 kids, so 4 pc's all on hard wired 10gb lan and 5gb symmetrical fiber outline. We can play forza horizon, fortnite, fall guys, zero issues. sub 50 ping in most games. Battlebit? ping is "fine" if you believe the server ping which some people dont. but packet loss is abundant and game microstutters often with rubber banding. never happens when playing on the network by myself. Usually pops up once 3 computers are playing battlebit.

Not buying that it's my fault or my ISP. I've played over 50 games with my friends via LAN and battlebit is the absolute only one with this issue. Check the other people on this post, I am not the only one with this issue.

i have used the VPN solution to fix issues i think with DNS, i have google fiber, no one playing but me on the network and would have similar packet loss issues. The main fix for me was changing my router's DNS setting to cloudflare's 1.1.1.1. Using cloudflare warp also didnt fix it. Proton's VPN worked well for me with this game until i changed the DNS.
