You're joking, right? Shotguns are a standard in these types of games.
Not joking, reciting what I have seen from everyone else discussing the play tests and asking for the shotguns.
True. SMG'S are literally a lazer with no recoil. How are shotguns harder to balance than lazers?
There's a reason the Marines have the M1014/Benelli M4 with the extended tube: A semi-automatic shotgun with 00 buckshot can toss 9-10 9mm pellets per shot, factor in 7+1 rounds and you've got a LOT of lead. But slower firerate, more recoil, less ammo capacity, worse armor pen, shorter range of maybe 40m max... and besides, if it's an argument of not wanting instakills, guess what: The guns in this game already practically instagib.
I mean, yeah, an auto-shotgun would be pretty unwise, but at the same time, what military on Earth even fields auto-shotguns? All fielded combat shotguns I'm aware of (The Benelli M4, Saiga/VEPR 12, etc) are semi-automatic and either magazine- or tube-fed. And then there's the overglorified rifle that is the KS-23, but anyone who's played Tarkov would know better than to ask for that thing to be added.
And since TTK is already low, guess what, a shotgun isn't going to make it any lower. Slower firerate and higher recoil more in line with the statistics of some of the DMRs would make it impossible to do any more than *maybe* a 1v2. And in taking a shotgun as your primary, you're relegated to ONLY having firefights in the 50m-or-less range as that's the maximum effective range for most buckshot which is what militaries use. Someone's taking popshots at you from 200m out? Hope you're a good shot with your pistol.
As if people aren't using Medic SMG-rush setups as a crutch right now because running around a corner at 50MPH and spraying is one of the only ways they can get kills. Shotguns would actually give a counter-option to these crackhead Rambo wannabes spraying bullets at 1000RPM, and provide a good reason as to why NOT to be up in people's faces.
