Any idea how bullet drop works reliably?

I know random bullet spread will mess up an average, but how am I supposed to know how much drop I'll have? The ticks on the sniper scopes dont seem to do much for me. It doesnt help I dont know what the ticks mean. I do have the rangefinder, but that doesnt do me any good since I dont know what the lines mean on the scopes. If anyone can help me clear this up it'd be greatly appreciated!

if you have the range finder, just bind easy to use keys for zeroing your sights and use that. can avoid bothering with the ticks completely that way. if you want to find out what the ticks mean on a scope, try the shooting range and experiment

if your a sniper you're supposed to use the zero in button to find your range. think by default its Left alt key, hold it then scroll mouse wheel to find your desired distance
When i snipe i usually use the capture points as a reference to find my zero in, those tell you how far away you are from them

Wait there is zeroing? Literally the first time I've heard of this... I'll need to figure that out when I get back in game.
