The Solution to ♥♥♥♥ Talking
Here's your solution:

A community sourced VOIP/Text filter, that players can turn on/off at their OWN discretion.

How does it work? When someone says something you don't like, you can opt to "report" or "block" them. If enough people "report" or "block" someone, they get added to the "Community Filter".

The "Community Filter" is by default off, but you can at any point turn it on.

People who want to hear ♥♥♥♥ talking, mic spam, etc. can then hear it, while those who are so easily triggered by all that stuff can essentially filter it out.

Done, problem solved. Best of both worlds. Now there's no reason to ban people over VOIP/text communications. Let the community police itself.

Edit: Since a few don't understand the concept, this isn't related to the mute button whatsoever. This idea is a alternative to banning people over VOIP. The idea is to replace the banning of people due to VOIP with this community ran filter (via essentially votes) that players can opt to turn on or off. The only other things I'd add are a notice when you've been added to the community filter and maybe a way to appeal being added to the community filter. Overall this should lead to less effort being put into moderating VOIP as it'll end up mostly moderating itself over time.

Or you just, uh, mute the guy and move on? Mute is already in game.

I’ll make sure the devs read this suggestion, thanks for providing a plausible solution instead of just screaming about people getting banned.

no offense, but ive been reading comments in here for a few weeks now and you mods are always saying stuff like "the devs are actively working on the game" etc etc etc etc... the "next update is coming soon".... on and on...

But they havnt stated anything in over a year, discord has been dead for over a year, and there is not one ounce of word from them anywhere. Can you at least link us or show us proof the game is still being made?? The game is amazing, but without new content it will die in the next year easy.

The problem is the banning due to VOIP. Mute exists, yes, of course, but that's not what my proposed solution is a replacement for. My proposed solution is a replacement for banning people due to VOIP, which at this point is bleeding the few remaining players.

Also, if the devs cared, they'd at least make some sort of announcements on Steam. At this point it's like talking to a brick wall or screaming into the wind. If the game was ♥♥♥♥, I wouldn't still post here in vain.

Hey dude, I am indeed the only mod still moderating steam discussions but I am not the last moderator left there are still a lot of us working on moderating the game. Anyhow here is a link to the document some community members have compiled of stuff that has been announced by the devs or the cm https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qsqr0lKh1HBJTPzVH2y5z4idkyi3pOUGkQH4GZ03lR0/edit?usp=sharing

This isn't about replacing the mute button, you dip. This is about offering an alternate to banning people from the game for VOIP.

Or people could just grow up... Insane how the majority of gamers are in their mid 20s to early 30s and they are crying about "toxic" behavior. must be hard to be so pathetic.

CM's don't care about this, they'll ban you for anything that may be harmful to the brand.

The reason OP suggested what he did was solely because of this
