What does the target detector do?

Been using it for a bit, assumed it would auto spot targets you aim at or something. Haven't noticed it doing anything, and no one in the game's chat seems to know either.

I was equally perplexed. Since the range finder is the only side rail I find useful I decided to throw one on when playing medic. No idea.

Target Detector side rail attachment added , Pretty much, when you aimdown to a player, it will spot them automatically (checks every 100ms, meaning, 10hz), the spots lasts 2 seconds which is shorter than regular spots.

Must need to see the entire body or something or be really close to them. I aimed at plenty of guys out in the open at a distance or ones closer who just had their chest/head showing, didn't do anything.
