I dont think its that simple, taking a quick look on steam charts, i've found that other popular steam games dont fluctuate as severely after summer/holiday season. (specifically gmod and black ops 3)
most lost maybe a few thousand, but not over half the playerbase in a month. (unfortunately, thats how much 2042 lost in a month)
It feels like half the team is at the end of the map and sniping and everyone else is sweating.
Hardly anyone talks and when they do it's some kind of toxic crap.
The cool guys who made jokes are no longer there.
The next update will bring archiving and weekly tasks. So more people will sweat in.
I think it won't be long before more players will leave because of it.
The game has simply lost its fun and ease.
Nice cope kid, but jobs don't go away for the summer.
This seems like the most likely answer to this problem, toxicity was a problem from the start and the devs really didn't do anything until it was too late. The problem was only multiplied by FaceIT Controversy and the epidemic of cheaters and sweats.
- Devs missing the mark in terms of what the players actually want and just doing whatever they please
- Failure to communicate
- Censorship instead of freedom of speech
- Poor handling of community behavior
- Cutting costs in the worst ways possible
So TLDR, Devs brought the game back to square one without actually helping the community out, somehow made it worse in the process, more than 50% of the community left as a result.
