VAC bans are game-specific and only if the game runs VAC on Steam. You aren't banned from Steam if you have a VAC ban. You're banned from the game you cheated in. Steam doesn't share some database of VAC bans to game developers to pre-ban people, nor should they. Do you want to ban anyone from having a driver's license if they've ever had a ticket? Some people do just make big mistakes (like cheating) and them learn from them. I know the internet doesn't breed a strong sense of empathy, but to be frank someone's past behavior is absolutely none of your or any developer on Steam's business. If someone has a VAC ban they've paid the price for it already. This is a game, not a stock exchange. People can do things that are regrettable without eternal condemnation.
It doesn't need to use VAC, it can pull your steamID, see if you've ever been banned when you connect to a server and just block you from playing.
It does, when you pull a steamID using their API you know if they've been banned or not. You can just block them from connecting to servers after that.
That's a really disingenuous response. That information can be found if someone wants to look for it. That's not at all the same thing as sending out information for the purpose of pre-banning someone. Your request is patently ridiculous.
Going to prevent me from playing this game for mistakes made 10 years ago?
That's pretty unfair if you ask me.
If you really want pre-bans, how about the logical extreme. Have you ever played a game that you abused and exploit or glitch in or used a gameshark? Instant ban.
What was the mistake? Cheats just magically installed themselves on your computer and you got caught with them?
Cheating in online games is primarily based on personality. We know from a litany of research that personality doesn't really change over time. In fact, while people may change a small amount in absolute measures (like becoming more extroverted) over time, comparatively they will remain the same (i.e. be in the same percentile because everyone else also became more extroverted).
So it wasn't just a "mistake" that led to your ban. It was a decision that was made by you that was caused by your personality.
