The games industry was pretty gender neutral before then. Developers were like 50/50 men and women. But afterwards it largely became a male oriented industry both in the consumers of the product and the developers of the product. Mostly because people who play games aspire to make games, so the market force effected the producing force of games.
There are a few skins, it's not unreasonable that one of the options be feminine. Some men may want this, too.
This ain't the own you think it is. All of the Battlebit characters are clearly quite masculine and male presenting. If they were trans, they'd be trans men.
The Battlebit devs have more than enough resources to introduce female characters with how much bank they've made ripping off DICE.
I dont think BF1 BARELY had any women in it.
