On top of killing Linux compatibility its also always on and Ring 0, so if the company is compromised your computer is compromised, as well as being owned by Saudi Arabia. If you think a government that spies on its citizens and assassinates them in embassies is trustworthy (Let alone the government the FBI has been investigating for over 7 years for involvement in 9/11), please buy products using Faceit anticheat.
So all of them, then?
PS...
youre online. you have accounts that YOU registered.... did you read all of the terms and conditions for each of those sites? If you think Saudi Arabia is gonna take your data, I got news for you.... You already gave most of it away willingly.
Now go away with your Government conspiracy crap. If they want it, theyll get it... but they most likely already have it.
"Is FACEIT safe to use after Saudi takeover?
Here is my lay-person understanding of the problem: FACEIT sits deep inside out computers to make sure we won't cheat. Even though it can do massive harm or steal critical data, we just assume FACEIT won't do it because it is in its own best interest as a business to stay trustworthy. But if the political/intelligence value, to the Saudi government, of our data outweighs FACEIT's value, abuse becomes justified and we won't know until it is too late.
To be clear, I am referring to all data on our computers that is accessible to FACEIT, and not just our gaming data"."....
*end quote*
The problem is... YOUR data isnt valuable to them. Neither is mine. Not any gamer for that matter. Literally, most gamers data is just random garbage, other than maybe getting their Identity stolen. None of your personal info is of political or national intelligence value.
Unless your involved in government work on your pesonal PC, house sensitive government files on your personal PC, or have integral infrastructure info... etc, AND are playing this game on the same PC... theres no cause for concern. If you are doing that kind of work, then it should definitely be done on a secure PC/connection meant specifically for working with that type of info. NOT a gaming device.
You see the problem here? Youre acting like this company is just going to take everyones random info for no reason...Lol. They would literally need information thats worth it.
I think we can both agree that 95% of people playing this game dont need to worry about this. The other 5% just need to follow safety/security protocol.
Believe what you like though.
Why are you posting an unattributed 'quote question' from some self admitted lay-person? Let alone a quote counter to your own points, as this lay-person understands Saudi Arabia has the capacity to do whatever they like with it. Very confusing.
Ignoring that, nearly all data in this context is valuable. It wouldn't be a 12 figure industry if it wasn't. The fact that you, and most people don't realize or care is one of many reasons why surveillance is embedded in programs where it isn't necessary, and in programs where it is necessary for functionality (This game being one of them, to be clear) the surveillance is beyond what is required.
We absolutely do not agree that some arbitrary number of people do not have to worry about this, and that's a silly assumption to make. 100% of users should worry about this because the moment Faceit is compromised, every single machine with it is compromised to a far higher degree than almost every other AC on the market. I don't believe you understand the implication of that happening whatsoever.
I cant find one. Not one. I've been googling. Drop me a link if you have one.... I can find that they are a legit business, that got bought out by Saudi's.
So, yes, Ill quote you some rando question in response to what is essentially a conspiracy, with 0 evidence to back up that THAT is what they are actually doing with your information. Youre just saying they COULD do that. Any app on your phone COULD do the same thing... its literally right there in the permissions for you to read. They arent doing it though. Also, the fact that they were a legit company that got bought out probably means they are being held to an industry standard.... Are they immune to being compromised? No... but neither is any other online service. If they choose to abuse their data, it would also be hard to retain a 12 figure company when people lose trust and move to other options. Faceit isnt the only anticheat out there.
I went and read all of faceits policies for fun in the meantime... seems pretty standard to just about any phone app, game launcher or anything of the like. As I said earlier... "you already gave it away willingly".
All I can find is that people are upset the company was sold to Saudi's, mostly because they dont trust them... or because Middle East, or something. I dont know...
What I do know is that nothing Ive looked at or read in the last 45 minutes points to what you speak of...
Though, it COULD be done... it NOT being done.
Again, drop a link to a legit example of what you claim ACTUALLY being used in a malicious way by the company.... if you have one. If im wrong, Ill apologize right now.
No, random apps on your phone do not have the same permissions outlined under Faceit's TOS or program operations. This is a statement that could only be made by someone with no understanding of security for either platform.
Its not a 12 figure company, its a 12 figure industry. That you think a single anticheat company holds a $100b+ market share in the data industry is telling.
The 45 minutes you spent half reading a TOS didn't lead you to a greater understanding of this situation, and at this point I don't think anything short of divine intervention would.
Just give me a link or something I can go read, if I dont understand. Theres gotta be somewhere you got your info from, right?
Link it to me... Ill apologize, and go do some more reading so I CAN understand. How about that?
Thanks for boosting my post. Maybe the fact that this does work on Linux (steam deck OS) right now will hopefully be enough to get a bunch of people to download and try it on steam deck.
Part of your issue is that this wont be supported on linux because of Faceit, Right? Well, Battle Bit actually IS supported right now on steam deck.... The more support it gets from the community in the form it is will give more reason for them to go with a different anticheat that may allow for operation with linux.
Also, Your argument is based on theory... and you say it yourself:
"They're saying its still up in the air what they're doing, but they brought a Faceit employee on stream to do damage control the other night so I'm guessing they're still going forward with it as it stands."
You tried to say "they were" implementing this in one sentence, then You literally say "its up in the air", and "I guess theyre still going forward with it".... So you literally dont know anything. Your guessing what this company is going to do.
keep up all that great reasearch, and Ill take my 45 minutes. Looks like it was enough to see that you dont actually know anything about the direction the developers/anticheat will actually take here. Its just speculation.
Anyway, Thanks again for the boost. Go enjoy this title on Steam deck (linux) while you still can.
My source? The discord, from the devs.
I know exactly as much about the direction the devs are going to take as they've stated. I made that clear, and the rest of the discussion was about why Faceit is a horrible option. What point are you trying to make? Do you have one at all?
Faceit being used on official servers means the game itself will require Faceit to be installed and always running as it requires, unless you're making the massive assumption that they're going to have separate installs for official servers and community servers. Then there's the question of progression on community servers. How about you do your homework?
