Did you ever play BF3? Or BF4? This is just how games were man. You had to play for months and months to unlock everything. It's not designed to reward everybody with everything they want within a short period around release. Back then we played games for a long time. I get your frustration, I really do, but I think you're missing out on the actual joy of the gameplay and the community right now if wanting the MP5 really badly is getting in the way of that.
Well you're asserting that lowering the requirements to unlock everything is clearly better, which I don't agree with. What does "slopgame" mean? Because BF3 and BF4 were some of the goats.
Should we just have every gun unlocked to start and forego progression entirely? I'd be fine with that, but many people like the progression. So if you DO want progression, then the rank requirements just don't fall along the spectrum where you want them to. You'll get over it and trying to frame this argument as if we are blocking "progress" and it's not fun is ridiculous. Battlebit has disrupted the entire shooter market, I think they are perfectly fine when it comes to "improving the status quo" lol
"slop" as in corporatized, overpolished, and in general soulless design. A good game has hard and varied decisions on both the tactical and strategic level, a slop game has half-baked minmaxxing "strats" where the "answer" is blatantly obvious. A good game has unique and even, dare i say, ROUGH mechanics, a slop game is smooth and has little definable characteristics. Granted, the Battlefield series isn't fully slop; it's a pretty unique format and there's a lot of quality design choices that went into those games, but the progression system in those games is very much SLOP.
The real question should be, what does progression SERVE? Why should we have it in the first place? The only real answer (that I can think of) is that it acts as a semi-tutorial; if you lock harder to use equipment for a few hours, newer players will learn simpler systems first, and if you hide half of the attachments early on, there's a lot less for them to internalize.
Apart from that, I just don't see a need to gate every single thing, ESPECIALLY when some of the later unlocks are just plain better. I always hate playing a game and dying to someone not because they outplayed me but because they unlocked something that just plain outgunned me.
What can I say, I've gotten pretty good at noticing ways to improve things. It comes from playing and coding for open source games.
Yes, I did play both BF3 and BF4. Unlocking base guns didn't take long at all. That's my entire point. Leveling up in Battlebit is extremely slow, with zero rewards in between. I am so annoyed by people ASSUMING my criticism means I want everything unlocked right away. That isn't what I said, I've never said it, please read the message I posted.
Part of enjoying the gameplay is CUSTOMIZATION and being able to use the weapon that you want to. As I said, I'm level 25 ish and only have 3-4 guns unlocked, and looking at the unlock levels, none of the fun guns are unlocked in the near future.
It is so frustrating when people with no life, who spend 10 hours straight in a game, come here and give mediocre replies about how "not a problem" grinding is, and how they didn't have any issues. In situations like this, it is obvious that empathy is not something people understand. We can't all afford to spend our entire free time playing a game to unlock the guns we want.
Additionally, while you have a point, fun isn't only about using the gun you want, VARIETY does make a difference. I love my UMP and AK, but do I want to use them for the next month or two straight without any type of variety in my gameplay? He!! no. That is what was so good about BF3 and 4, if I got tired of one gun, I could switch to another. Tired of that? Switch to another.
This game has the variety, but they've locked it behind excessive levels and an extremely slow level up grind. These high level grinds come off as two things.
1. Forcing players to play more for the gun they want
and
2. Rewarding people who have no life what so ever.
and
3. Rewarding players who are better at FPS games than others.
And it's so frustrating to me when people make assumptions about my life and how I enjoy this game. I'm right there with you on the grind man. Look at my hours played. I'm not even level 60 yet. I'm like a 1.03 k/d. I'm not some no-lifer that plays constantly and has everything unlocked. And yet I'm still enjoying it, and when I want variety I switch to another class and provide a different role to my team.
Also to your point about BF3 and BF4, I think you may be misremembering how quickly you unlocked guns in those. There were still guns I didn't have unlocked from BF4 when I finally hung it up. I do agree with you that the base guns were probably quicker to unlock, but idk, it doesn't really move the needle for me. Within a couple of hours in Battlebit I had multiple ARs, SMGs, LMGs, Snipers, DMRs, etc etc. so I had access to everything I needed. Most of the high-level unlocks are just variations on ARs. If that gets you really excited then cool, but it's not really that much variety in terms of gameplay IMO.
You have a valid complaint but I don't think they are going to tailor the game to satisfy everybody on this. I personally would rather have stuff to work towards and enjoy this game for months to come, rather than the current expectation of a typical games' lifecycle which is incredible short and like a flash-in-the-pan for the streamers.
At least in BF3 you could unlock every attachment at 100 kills except some variants for optics right?
Bare in mind, this topic is old. Not too long ago there was a new leveling system added that made it a lot better.
I just wish there were more weapons available right at the beginning, rather than the game boring new players by initially forcing them to play such a limited selection.
